Acute pulmonary edema is a condition defined by the accumulation of extra fluid in the lungs. Which of the following factors may account for this condition?
A. a decrease in the pulmonary arterial pressure
B. a decrease in the systemic arterial pressure
C. an increase in the pulmonary resistance
D. an increase in the pulmonary capillary permeability to plasma proteins
The answer is D. I can see how that is correct but I also think C is correct. Wouldnt an increase in resistance to blood flow cause an increase in hydrostatic pressure? The book says that it would cause a decrease in pressure. Can someone please clarify whether the book is correct and if so, give a simple explanation of why? Thank you.
