I purchased the Examkrackers 101 Verbal MCAT Passages book and just took the first verbal section from it. I'm a little confused on how to grade this thing. The score conversion in the back ranges from 0-60?! There are only 40 questions per test...why is the raw score ranging all the way up to 60? Sorry if this is a silly question...I'm drained from studying all day. Thanks for your help!

This is the scale from AAMC CBT #10, it should serve as a good reference point.

Someone posted up the score conversion chart from the book without the misprint, I wrote it in the back of my book so here:

Raw Score Scaled Score
40 15
39 14
37-38 13
35-36 12
33-34 11
30-32 10
28-29 9
26-27 8
23-25 7
20-22 6
18-19 5
15-17 4
13-14 3
9-12 2
<9 1

edit: sorry if its not spaced out, it won't let me format it the way I typed it

I think it's 'harder' because the questions and answer choices are more ambiguous, making it harder to pick out the right answer. Plus, some of their proposed right answer simply cant be right after an analysis of their reasoning.

The difficulty of the passages themselves seem easier. I think the actual MCAT contains much more convoluted passages than EK101.

If the actual MCAT passage are harder but the EK's questions are harder, than they are about the same?

No they wouldn't be the same because it depends on which part you're good/bad at and will be further exaggerated.

Actually I think the real MCAT questions and answer choices are just as ambiguous, as suggested by recent MCAT takers. So it's the two added together .

I think EK is harder because it has a mix of tone/detail questions in there; passages seem a bit longer, too. AAMC questions all seem to stem from the tone/theme of the passage. But some people think the opposite; it just depends on how you're brain works.

What about the science portions? How do you compare EK questions and the real thing?

I got mine of amazon for like 26 dollars and they shipped really fast too..like 4-5 days for standard shipping:thumbup:

Yeah, $38 someone else mentioned seemed a bit high. I did the same thing you did, Amazon, and I just remember it being in the 20s.

I didn't mean to be a dick to him/her, normally I'm pretty nice here, but sometimes a little price hunting (which takes like less than 5 minutes to do these days) and being active is better than just asking someone to give you all the answers.

EK Verbal is like a smash and grab MCAT test. Well worth it. Builds character. My previous Verbal scores were 10 -> 9 -> 11.

Its definitely challenging, thats for sure. I score nearly perfect in TPRs verbal workbook, which everyone says here is another good practice source, yet EK kicks my ass. We'll see how I score on my retake, that'll be the judge.
