I am very interested to hear from residents who are working in Honolulu, LA, San Fran, Boston or NYC to see how they are living.
I was just offered an interview in Hawaii that I am thrilled about, yet I cannot find a decent place to live (family of 3) after a pretty extensive web search.
Any advice welcome - please pm or reply to this thread!
Offers of sub-lets, potential roomies, etc. please message after 3/16/06 😉

I'm only applying to residencies in expensive places, so housing is an issue for me also. Some programs have subsidized housing for residents, which makes it very easy to afford housing... and other places offer no help, which makes it almost impossible. It usually says on their web site if the program offers help with housing. The best thing to do is to talk with residents either before or during the interview process and ask them where they live. It's a bad sign when most of the residents live outside the city and commute in 🙂

after speaking with alot of residents from programs in nyc, i have learned that you can also ask for some senior residents that will be leaving to pass their apartment down to you. they are looking for people to move in as much as you are looking for a place to stay! and also, keep in mind that not only rich people live in major cities. you can find something affordable almost anywhere. the trick is to have all the money at hand when you're apartment searching so that when you find what you like, you can close the deal right then and there.

check out www.apartments.com or even www.craigslist.org for information on affordable places.

happy hunting!

oh, yeah! I forgot about Craig's list.
Thanks for the advice. Good luck to you both!

Hi abmd2006!

May I ask what program you're applying to in Hawaii? I have some ties to Honolulu now too, and I was wondering if we could compare notes--however, your account does not accept pm (private messages), so I am putting this out here in the public forum.

Thanks--and good luck! 🙂
