Ok, I just need some clarification and explanation. My understanding is that Goljan has these path lectures he gives. He does not sell the audio, but it is available in pirated form, correct? If somebody WERE to come across the audio, is there any way to tell if it is the most updated and recent version?

He also has some notes that go along with these path lectures. I've heard about 36 page notes and 100 page notes. What's the difference? Are these sold in any legal way?

He also has a Rapid Review Path book (red and grey) that would correspond with the info in his lectures, correct? May be as good or better than what he provides as notes? This would be used instead of a BRS Path book, right?

He also has a Rapid Review question book/cd that you can purchase, but nobody ever discusses this so it isn't worth getting?

Anything else that falls under the "Goljan" umbrella.

Thanks in advance.

The Rapid Review Path Book is a duplicate of the path notes. It is not red and grey, however --> it is purple and white. You'll want to buy a review book written by Goljan. This book contains the notes, as well as questions and a CD.

I have compared the book to the notes myself, and they are essentially the same. The bold words that emphasize likely board questions are exactly the same as well.

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed both Goljan's audio lectures and the Rapid Review Path book (didn't use the CD). I felt a little bad that I found his lectures on eBay dirt cheap, but I wouldn't have bought his book without them so I figured that was his payoff from it.

My boyfriend and I both used the lectures on our iPods and on CD and we read portions of the book. If you learn better by listening but don't want to pay for Kaplan (or you just get sick of staring at books and need to take a break sometimes, I'd use the iPod at the gym) - then I totally recommend this. We got a 220 and a 230 though I don't know if I'd say it was all thanks to Goljan. 🙂

My Rapid Review Path book is red and grey. I'm not sure what the purple and white one is. Maybe an earlier edition? I also would not have heard of Goljan and bought his book if not for the audio lecture.

He is currently writing a new edition for next year. We are getting the book chapter by chapter, as we go through it in class. Our class notes ARE the rapid review notes.

No. The purple and white is the newest edition. The red and grey book is the older edition.

I have the red and grey book and it says copywrite 2004. I don't see the purple and white one on Amazon. He put out another book this year, 2005?

I apologize. I wasn't looking at the book when I was typing this and mixed it up with my Pharmacology book.

I think because you said red and grey it threw me off. The book is mostly white, with some red and grey at the top. It IS the newest version.

He will be putting out the new edition in 2006, and is in the process of writing now, as he teaches each chapter to our class.

Did you mean to say he was going to change the cover to purple and white and use the same material from the red and white book? :meanie:

Funny.

Will the new edition be out in time to study for boards or should I just go with the old edition. What is the feeling on Goljan vs. BRS Path. I would imagine Goljan to be better since he writes COMLEX questions. Correct?

Goljan writes USMLE questions. I'm not so sure about COMLEX, but he makes sure to put in stuff on COMLEX as well as USMLE in the review.

I don't really know when the edition will be out, but I would imagine he won't have it done until the end of the school year, meaning it won't be out in time for boards.

I'm pretty sure this is not true. Goljan may have written USMLE questions in the past but it would be a conflict of interest for him if he still does.

Possibly, but I guarantee that he knows what questions will be on there.

"My boyfriend and I both used the lectures on our iPods and on CD and we read portions of the book. "

I tried adding the Goljan lectures to my ipod, but they wouldn't transfer from iTunes to my ipod. Are there some settings that I need to change?

He quit doing Stars and is only doing Rapid Review now.

I understand Goljan notes & audio comes in handy after reading Robbins text or can one directly jump to Goljan without reading Robbins........
regards
NN

I'm currently a second year and I break up Robbins into small sections to read each day (seriously small like 5 pages) and I listen to Goljan whenever I can, driving, working out, cooking etc. For some reason I always remember better the things he says than what my profs say, probably because he's so animated and he asks a lot of questions (try to answer them before he does).

I think it's more helpful to read Robbins so you have a strong foundation and listen to Goljan along with it to pick out the truly important high yield info.

Thanks doctorjay,
That helped, I have another question regarding Robbins, what are chapter numbers to be read for Stp1...........pls dont get mad, this is really a weird one.
Regards
NN

I can only comment on what I've had to do so far for first semester (Robbins 6th edition) Chapters 1-5, 7,8, 12, 13, 16, 26, 30. But don't forget I still have another semester to go with Path which will probably cover close to if not the entire rest of the text.

Some chapters may be more high yield for Step 1 but I wouldn't be able to advise yet, maybe someone else can?

It's in outline format. Pretty good stuff. Pic enclosed for you so you don't have to worry about purple vs. Red.

Are there any Goljan materials in more of a prose-form? I don't know why, but I have problems absorbing loose outlines. Like I had to get Big Moore cause I couldn't understand Baby Moore.

Is the Goljan audio designed for USMLE review, or is it just lectures from a regular Pathology class?

The lectures from our regular pathology class are pretty much designed for board review. The information is pretty much integrative of all of the other courses.

I don't know where the pirated audio is from, however.

Thanks DrJay, appreciate the info.

Richie Truxllilo had a good time at your site, awesome it is!! 👍
Down loaded the Netter tests but somehow cant make them work, but am working on it.

Rendar5 thanks for asking the question which I wanted to ask but did not know that I had the question, sounds complicated , never mind. 🙄

This goes to the maestro(pointed to me by DoctorSaib).......Long Dong.....could you share a list of books that covers stp1 with the kind of books Rendar5 and me included, love to read.......you know the ´more in prose ´ style. The idea to is strenghten the base and then jump on the review band wagon.

Sorry can't help you much on this one because hate reading prose, but of the books I used that did have prose was kaplan pharm notes, micro mad rid., and the lange mico/imunno book (just the immuno section). Hope that helps.

Richie you have one heck of a website!!

More to the Goljan saga: I have the Goljan Stars book(1998) and it basically follows the Goljan audio. How much more path could he add to the Rapid Review Series.? [Just that the Stars book lacks an index!!] As stated above the strongest move is a "Robbins" foundation augmented with Robbins qs.

hey everyone,

I'm new to these forums but I find them extremely helpful (and mildly entertaining). Just wanted to say thanks in advance..

I found some Goljan lectures on www.doctok.com, but only 5 days' worth. Is that the entire set?

thanks,
v

yup 5 days and the last lecture will cut off just as he's talking about Parkinson's.

-J

btw, the stuff on doctok is the same stuff people are selling on eBay
