My pre-med advisor told me today that most competitive applicants have 6+ extracirricular (clinical/ community service) activities. I, of course, thought this was high because I am entering junioor year with only one semester worth of clinical experience. My question is this, how much is typical for most applicants, 6 seems high?

Quality, not quantity, is what counts. You should do a few ECs that you can commit to that mean something to you. Med schools can tell when someone is trying to beef up their application by doing several activities for short periods of time.
