I just checked my status page and lo and behold they finally made a decision. They better send me a formal rejection letter, cause the one on the web doesn't do it for me.

Those bastards at USC, I just got my letter as well. I love how they put the rejection:

"Nearly 4500 applied for our 160 slots, and that means that I am the bearer of bad news for most applicants. I am writing to tell you that you are not one of those chosen for an interview. I understand how painful that may be at the moment. But I am sure that you understand as well as anyone the reality of the math....And four years from now, if your residency match brings you to LAC+USC, please stop by and say hello."

WTF. When I stop by, I will tell you guys to F-off. Got to love how they say the "reality of the math".

Yeah, I just read my rejection letter five minutes ago:

"I am writing to tell you that you are not one of those chosen for an interview. I understand how painful that may be at the moment."

They act like somebody died.

Oh well,

F-USC

the "reality of the math" would also suggest that $90 is enough money to pay for them to mail a real rejection letter....jerks! :p

Woohoo, I checked my status page and I got...

REJECTED !!!!!!!!

After 5 months of waiting and $90, I finally finally got a response. Yipee, hoo rah, woo hoo, yahoo, google, altavista, yippee kay yay.

And yes, I hate how they mentioned that "math" crap in there. And oh my God, what's with that residency in the future thing..."And four years from now, if your residency match brings you to LAC+USC, please stop by and say hell". What the hell !!!!!

That has got to be the most annoying rejection letter I have ever received.

did you guys get the letter through email or did you have to check the status page?

I didn't find the rejection as painful as they suggested. I was actually laughing at the tone of the letter and the fact that I found out only by randomly checking the website. Oh well. They saved a few trees anyway.

LoL...

So I called the office like 2 weeks ago, to inquire on my application status.

They tell me the same BS about they have no way to tell blah blah blah...

So then I say, "So if I haven't heard anything for the past 5 months, I can assume that I'm rejected, right?"... and the guy says, "Well, no, the Committee is still reviewing files and we are still giving out interviews..."

LoL... My A$$ you're still "reviewing" applications.

Should have put a stop payment on the $90 check...heheh

they've added a box, "click here for final decision". i did and also got a rejection. i don't get it. maybe they're elitists. they have lower stat averages than any of the UCs and i got interviews at 4 of 5 UCs, but no love from them. i know there is more to an applicants success than just numbers, but come on!!!!! i guess my public so called "no name school" wasn't enough for them. good luck to those that got invites.
does anyone else feel that the upper ranked private schools put a lot of stock in your undergrad school?

In the immortal words of XFL star He Hate Me, uh...
"He hate me."

After reading the forum, I decided to pay a visit to the USC Keck School of Medicine "Status" page. I noticed there is a link to "Final Decision Letter" on the web-site. Without surprise, a decision was made. I don't know how to react. I've been accepted to much, much better schools and, yet, I felt I earned the right to have an interview at USC. Well, I guess the medical school application process is indeed random.

I guess the thing that pisses me off the most was the fact that they have been sitting on my completed application since the end of September with no word on if it was in review, or sitting in pile of papers, or thrown in the trash. I say it now and I'll say it the next couple of days F-USC !!
Thanks everyone for letting me vent. Goodluck to everybody. peace I'm outta here.

Yes, indeed. This is another proof of how random this process is. I've gotten in to much better, and ranked schools than USC. USC is not even ranked (research). So, it is possible that you can get into Columbia while get rejected from USC. If there's any new premed out there, apply to the top schools even if you have slightly above average stats. You'll never know...

According to US News & World Report, the USC Keck School of Medicine is indeed ranked for research. I believe it is no. 43. Nevertheless, the school overall isn't that wonderful and it doesn't have very good *manners* when it comes to the admissions process.

hi, i just felt obligated to defend u.s.c., even though it's not my alma mater or anything

go trojans!!!

:) :) :) :) :) :)

Doh, I just checked, they are ranked. My bad, I was wrong. I was thinking of last year's ranking.
Thanks for the correction.

Natalie, please come to Cali and say hello. :D <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" /> I guess she's too busy at Harvard and making movies.

plus, i know some1 that turned down jhu for usc (met them at my ucsf interview)

i never went myself, as i declined the interview, but personally i thought the admissions staff was very helpful and friendly, and i've heard great things about the school -- surprisingly good things, the 5 or so people i've talked to were all like, "i wasn't expecting much, but wow! it kicks butt"

i just wanted to say this because there are like 20 people bashing usc here, understandably of course, but i don't want next year's students to shy away because of this

usc is a very cool school :D

This is me reading my rejection "link" from USC:

<img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Why do they even try to be nice?

Just wanted to say that UCLA kicks ass. Go bruins.

One positive thing about USC med: They provide a fantastic meal for you at the interview. This really does leave a good impression after visiting schools that give you a $5 voucher for a greasy grilled cheese sandwich in their run-down cafeteria.

Ain't this a bit-h! rejected by USC and UCLA on the same day....definitely not having a good week!

I showed the rejection letter to my mom--she's was a English major in college. We just spent about 10 minutes making fun of it. Don't you think the Dean of admissions should be able to use proper English? The letter's full of dashes and pluses, sentences beginning with BUT and AND, and weird sounded sentences. I guess "Erin A. Qiunn, Associate Dean for admissions" isn't that smart or at least good at writing properly.......haha.
<img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

4500 X $90.00 = $405,000.00

I can see why they can't afford to send rejections via snail mail. They obviously couldn't afford the paper or the stamp. I wonder if their profit on this is taxable?

I'm sorry to hear about all the rejections that SC sent out today. It was totally random and unfair. But lets just be careful about the bashing of USC because there are some SDNers who will be attending USC next year. (As a ucla alum, I find it strange that I'm defending USC right now.) Peace.

I agree CaliBoy. I know it's tough to get rejections (boy do I), but completely berating a school for rejecting you and stating it's a low-caliber school, especially when they are dedicated to becoming a top ten school in the next ten years is curious at best.

I personally think their research kicks ass, but maybe I'm just biased. :D

There's nothing wrong with bashing USC. I'd like to watch it continue. =)

First thing I did after reading their rejection (deny letter as it says in the URL as it loads) was to withdraw my application by clicking on the button on the status check page. That will show them.

haha, I am actually friends with Dr. Quinn, and she is definitely one smart cookie. She wrote her dissertation on the MCAT, so she values it alot in the admissions process.

I am sorry all of y'all didn't get in, but it is a good school, and private. I never much cared for public schools.

Father 1 - "Don't worry son, he'll probably end up at a state school"
Father 2 (Niles Crane) - "How dare you!!!, kick his ass Frederic"

When I was checking off which medical schools to apply to on my AMCAS.... I told my father that I didnt want to apply to USC. I just couldnt end up going there (being a UCLA graduate and a very spirited Bruin).... I just could not see myself in those USC colors and ever being sincerely happy there. Since my father wanted me to stay in So Cal... I decided to throw more money away. Anyway.... getting rejected was worth the $90 (secondary) + $40 (primary) dollars. That letter is ridiculously funny. My roommates and I were cracking up about the tone and tackiness of it, let alone the grammar issues. Is it me, or did it seem like they were assuming that Keck was your first choice and that the news was so devastating.

I'm not in any way a USC supporter or fan, but please stop trying to act like a bunch of losers.

For those who got into better ranked schools, congratulations. I hope you make compassionate and brilliant physicians from the Columbias and UCSFs of the world. Try not to be disappointed when you discover that not all of your classmates are as hot as you think they should be. Sometimes you will find some of your classmates unbearable, much like the losers on this thread.

Yes, sometimes your back-up schools completely reject you, but suprisingly you are accepted into higher-ranked schools. Feel free to complain but for heaven's sake, don't act like a child.

USC screwed up my application. They somehow failed to register my secondary until 2 weeks before the application deadline.

I was laughing at the tone they used in their rejection letter. I'll try to contain my heartbreak while I'm at either UCLA or Penn next fall.

Dude that letter was freaking ridiculus.

What a hell?

Bastards, those damn bastards.

Last time I apply to California schools.

:p :p :p

Was there anyone here rejected post-interview?

or is everyone here pre-interview?

Thanks

Hector,
I am sorry that you feel the way you do.... but there is one thing to write a rejection letter that is nice and to the point and it is another thing to be condescending and elitist the way USC writes it (by the way... they dont send it in the mail... you have to follow a link to download the letter.... kinda tacky huh?). It would not be a surprise if Harvard wrote a letter like that.... I am not justifying either school writing it... but the top school in the nation has more of a right to make their school sound like the best. USC's letter would be equivalent to an applicant writing a withdrawal letter like this:

"I am sorry that I am the bearer of bad news, but my application should no longer be under consideration. I know your school must be devastated at this moment, but there are 125 medical schools out there and I, unfortunately, can only attend one. Do the math, it isnt that hard. It is not that I feel that your medical school is unqualified in training medical students to become physicians, it simply refeclts the fact that there is an extraordinarly intense competition for my matriculation. Good luck and if you happen to be in the Ann Arbor area, stop by and say hello."

If you dont see our point.... I think you are being a little biased. I admit that I am biased because nobody likes rejections.... but I have read many rejection letters that were not so snobby from schools like UCSF, Wash U that do have a higher demand of acceptance by applicants.

Read the thread titled "Favorite rejection line"...people even bitch about the "formal" letters. We're pre-meds. We bitch when things don't go our way. Come on, at least SC had the balls to do something different. Have you ever had a rejection letter make you laugh before? At least they accomplished that. Were you devastated when you got the letter? Sounds like most of you were laughing and sharing it with friends. It sounds much better than a letter saying..."Hey, if you're ever in the SC area, don't bother stopping by. We've reviewed your application and we don't even want to see you."

Imagine what the adcoms. do with OUR letters!

What kind of ***** would want to go to a 'state' school anyways! Higher ranked schools at a third the cost...

This thread, despite how silly it is, is a good one. Release your stress and let your anger out :)

Don't be surprised to see me return with deprecating remarks about USC

I'm sorry you guys were rejected, but USC is a great school (and getting better). A clinical education at LA County Hospital will prepare you for anything.

i was one of those rejected yesterday. i still believe usc to be a solid school and a viable option for any ca resident who wishes to stay in ca for med school.
i have been rejected and also accepted by better and worse med schools in this process.
i think most are just being critical of the rejection letter and felt a bit insulted by its tone.
i think we all agree that this process is a crap shoot and that the final decisions made by the adcoms are based on more than just gpa and mcats. there is also that fit factor specific to any given school, which is most surely a two way street. however, at times i've felt like some of the private schools i applied to were a bit on the elitist side without proper justification to be so.

Keith, I agree with you completely. USC is a good school. But the way the hold our application for 5 months without a word and then finally a rejection is just ridiculous. And the rejection letter is condescending. But well said, Keith.

man... whatever. i'm not gonna waste more time defending usc. if you guys wanna bash a school just because they rejected you, that's your business

on another note, to those that did get in usc, congratulations. you will get a fine clinical education!

I am a UCLA alumni and personally I think USC Med is a great program. I have been rejected by almost every single school I applied to this year, but some of them I knew I had no chance at getting in. I was hoping that cali schools will show me some love, but nothing! I know some of you feel the same pain as I do, maybe some of you let it out in a different way, but I won't talk sh-t about USC, I would have loved to go there, and personally when I do get my MD, I will apply for a residency spot at USC County Hospital, their program is awesome! and if I choose to go there for my residency I will stop by and tell the Dean, hey, 4 years ago I didn't even receive an interview from USC med and now here I am as a resident in your hospital....damn, now I wonder where would my med school alumni donations go?

If I get axed by USC, I wouldn't want to return to USC County. Now, if I'm not "good enough" for thier med school, then I'll deem them "not good enough" for me to return as a physician at thier county hospital.

I never filled out a secondary, and I still got the "this must be very painful" letter.

There goes my no-rejection streak.
Thanks USC!
