Don't know if this has been adressed in previous threads, but here goes:
I am a first year DO student, and I've become very interested in dentistry (my future brother in law is a DDS) and the head and neck in general. What types of specialties require a dentistry background? Does maxillofacial surgery require dental school THEN medical school? Are their any backdoor routes AFTER medical school? I know a guy who finished dental school practiced for a few years and then entered a residency program (four or five years I think) which will grant an MD upon completion. My understanding is that this incorporates reconstructive facial surgery, plastics, oral surgery, etc etc. Any imput on this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
