Does anyone know if you can switch residencies once you are in the FAP program or are you locked in? I want to go from FP to Peds. And if not, what do I need to do to get out of FAP. I want to be in the military but as a Peds doc not a FP doc. Appreciate input

If you are in the AF, you cannot change specialities without first going to the field as a flight surgeon or GMO and reapplying to the JSGME board. Refer to the online edition of MedLink on the AFPC website, where this is clearly explained.

The mil is downsizing its peds depts.. the plan is to outsource it.. or so I hear anyway..
The FAP contract is specific for the specility that you entered (FP).. if you drop or fail that speciality, then the contract is broken and thus void. I suspect that if you were to change to peds, they might offer you a spot in peds (if they need a peds doc), or else you will have to repay the money they paid you!..
To be honest, I am only guessing based on what I know of FAP and its contract. I suggest that you call CAPT Miller and talk to him. He is very nice and is the bose when it comes to all this FAP or GME stuff. He is very accessable.. and is the person that signs all the fAP contracts anyway.. thus his word would acually mean somthing.

good luck
A.
