I have been a long time watcher of the SDN boards but this is my first
thread. I know this is a personal decision that I will ultimately have
to make, but I was hoping some if you were in my shoes, what would you
do type of feedback, because I am stuck and would like to hear some different perspectives.
I am in a post-bac program with a 3.5cum/ 3.0sci/ 26R MCAT. I have
shadowed both MD and DO both for about 70 hours. This post-bac has a
very high acceptance and I am sure I can improve sci/mcat. I applied
to DO only this year, and have received 3 interviews so far and am
increasingly confident that I may have a seat somewhere next year.
However, I am interested in derm/reconstructive surgery, and by reading a lot of this site, I have come to realize that competitive residency positions
may be more difficult from a DO school. Basically, I have to decide
between taking the acceptance if I get it, or staying in post-bac and
impoving my MCATs. I am not biased towards either, and I know I will
have to work hard in either type of school, but I want to put myself in
the best situation for a residency. Also, it would be hard to turn
down a seat in a US med school if given the chance. So, I ask, if you
were in my situation, what would you do?
Side-note please dont turn this into a three alarm flame war by
insulting everyones point of view like all of the DO vs. MD threads.
I think there may be some others in my situation that are afraid to
bring this up in either an allo / osteo fourm, but I could really use
the advice. Thanks for your help!!!!!
