Hi, I have a question. I was on probation for 6 months during my residency as I went to my home country for vacation and had to stay there for 3 more days and called in sick with out actually being sick. I wanted to do GI fellowship, but unfortunately I didn’t got match this year. My program offered me to join nephro fellowship as I’m also also interested in critical care. They suggested me to do nephro and then critical care. They mentioned that they will also offer critical care once I’m done with nephro. I’m not sure how much this probation is gonna effect my chances of fellowship if I wanna pursue GI or CC? I interviewed for hospitalist positions at few places and they offered me contract. I’m confused on what would be the best thing to do. Any suggestions? Thank you

Probation may or may not show up on your official documents. If you were getting GI internally, maybe offer them to do a chief year and see if they would give it to you next cycle.

The other part, you’ll have to figure out on your own. Nepho/cc, just working as hospitalist and wait.... that’s all on you.
