Hello! I am a 4th year medical student from the Philippines who is interested to study in the US, specifically a residency in ER medicine. I still have to take the USMLE and the CSA but i'd love to have some ideas on:
1) Which medical schools are well known to accept IMGs?
2) Which of those schools in 1) has a good solid ER program?
3) Which is better a 3 year program or a 4 year program?
4) How many Filipino MDs are into ER Residency?

Thanks!!

Try pinoy.com, may be able to get some answers. From your post can't figure out if you have graduated from medical school in the P, if so, don't you have to intern there for a year before you can take license exam, or are you an American? Have you done all your rotations?

Well, I'm into my 6th month of internship, and six months to go till graduation. I am a filipino. There arent a lot of ER medicine offerings here in the Philippines. I have checked out some university sites, like the one in Louisiana University and University of Texas Houston and one in Minneapolis, the Hannepin county medical center....hmmm..lots to choose from...

Have you taken the USMLE/Step I ,and Step II, the TOFFEL(english exam), and scheduled the CSA (clinical exam)? If not, your first step would be to get all the infor. from ERAS and start the process. the ERAS handles all the testing etc, for foreign Medical graduates and can connect you up with all the programs available in USA in ER as long as you qualify by having taken the above tests. Most of the test except the CSA are computer generated, as is the ERAS. Good Luck!!

Thanks Carddr! Starting the ERAS application gives me mixed emotions....I know i have to make it. Mix uncertainty with excitement and what do you get? One freaked out, insecure, neurotic and emotional intern..hehehe!

ALL RIGHT!!!! You have to be tenacious here and dot all your Is' and cross all you T's...keep in mind your goal is not to just get through the testing process but to become a LICENSED MD in US. And factor in all of this may cost you around $5000.00(excluding the travel expenses and any visa costs). But thousands of IMGs do it every year. Above all remember to get HIGH scores on your Step I and II, that makes you competitive with AMGs and smooth sailing from there. Believe me it matters. Hope this helps. Go for IT!
