Is a "firm" acceptance binding in any way, or can you withdraw from one?

I've never heard "firm" acceptance before. When you're accepted to a medical school, you can withdraw your acceptance at any time up to May 15th and still get your deposit back. If you withdraw after May 15th (such as if you're accepted elsewhere off a waitlist), I believe the refund is not returned at most schools.

sounds to me like a term used for mattresses or how ever you spell it and not for med school at least to my knowledge. i believe the only thing binidng is early decision, if even.
