I am trying to plan my summer and thought it might be helpful to some people if I started this thread.

Downstate: Orientation second to last week in Aug
Class starts last Mon in Aug

Tufts: Orient last week Aug
Class starts day after Labor Day

NYMC?

NYMC: first week Aug
Drexel: first week Aug
St Louis: first week Aug
GW: Aug 20 orient, class starts that Mon
Temple: last week Aug

Classes are the last thing on my mind right now... you should try out the "Am I a gunner" thread after you purchase your USMLE book. Its only March... let the madness begin!

GO MARYLAND!!!

yeah, but in the next 4 months or so we've all got to find places to live so we can be there for when classes start... i'm not ready to go out and buy my books or anything, but it's nice to have a date in mind so you can think ahead to moving...

Gunner? riiiiiight....

I am more concerned with the fact that if classes start the first week of Aug that shaves an entire month off my summer plans to sit on a beach.

I was planning on quitting work in May but after talking to a doc yesterday she replied "that might not be enough vacation if class starts in early Aug!" and that is why I started looking it up today....

(ps she went to JHU and she told me that they mailed them all a PROBLEM SET over the summer! Have fun whoever is going there!)

All the schools to which I have been accepted start the first week and all the schools that I am waitlisted at start the last week.

GET ME OFF THESE WAITLISTS!

fair enough... I misunderstood you. Fist week in august is terribly early... I hope you ge off the waitlists. Imagine having to go to school soon after July 4th...seems so un-American. On a side note, prob set over the summer sucks but at least Hopkins doesn;t have grades anymore just high honors, honors, high pass, pass, fail 😉

Well alphabeta, for those of us who have jobs, don't live in dorms and actually have to pay for things like UHauls, rent deposits, and decide what to do with our cars...start dates are actually important. When mommy and daddy don't take care of it, four months isn't that long to get your **** together and drive cross country.

you see those are still grades in my mind. i am all about the pass/fail....

not even CLOSE to gunner....

I know... my statement was sarcasm hence the wink.

I hear what you?re saying about waitlists totally ruining any ability to make plans for the summer.

Loyola: first week of august
OHSU: Last week of September...as far as I can tell

I am in at Loyola, and will probably be on the waitlist for OHSU.....so if I got a last minute acceptance to OHSU, I would have already completed more than a month of med school....how lame is that? (I would still consider switching due to in state tutition) On the other hand, I stop work at the end of May, and if I end up at OHSU that?s four solid months of beach time for me!

For some reason, I think that the AAMC stipulates that you cannot transfer once you have started at a particular school. It's so that schools don't have to be short students if they start early and people get pulled from waitlists after school has started. I hadn't heard that OHSU starts that late...that would be nice.

Yeah, I mean in al seriousness, I am coming off as a slacker but I have been really stressing out about all this, as I am sure many of you have. I feel awful for people with no acceptances in their pocket but relaly there are VERY few people who DEFINITELY know where they will be living in a few months. The whole waitlist thing is torture. My worst night mare is what happende to my roomate last summer. She was accepted at McGill, went up to Montreal leased and apt, got everything set, two weeks before she is set to move up for classes she gets accepted off waitlist at Emory and has 2 weeks to decide. It was horrible financialy and emotionally.

And I know more people who were accepted to med school off a waitlist last minute in the summer than people who were accepted to their school of choice before may 15th.

it is going to be a helluva summer.

Hi...so I thought the start date of OHSU was really late as well...so I called the admissions office and I was TOTALLY wrong!

OHSU orientation for first years will start the last week of August. Sorry about confusion!
