First Yr Med Students: Right after interview--Did You Know?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

This question goes out to the first or second year med students who roam these pages!

After you interviewed at the schools you were accepted, did you have an inkling that you would be? That is, could you tell the interview went well? Did you ever have a straight-forward-not-too-exciting interview and get accepted?

Thanks!!

Good question! I'd really like to know that answer b/c last Friday it seemed like my interview went well at UTH.

Yes, I knew but I think that even if you have a not so good interview if you are competitive (numbers wise) you will more than likely get accepted...

For me it was a mixed bag. My Davis interview went really well and I had a good vibe, but I still was not sure I would get in, though I did. At another school I had several great interviews where 2 of my interviewers said stuff like "you are a great fit for this program," "you'd do great here," and even "hope to see you in the fall." I was feeling really confident and then I got waitlisted. At a top tier school I thought my interviews went fairly poorly... both the student and the faculty member were fairly socially awkward and hard to deal with. I figured I would just get rejected because it was a long shot school for me anyway, but I got waitlisted. So you really never know because even if the interviewer goes to bat for you, the committee may decide differently. Or what you thought was terrible, could have been great. Just do your best and try not to overanalyze too much after the fact or you'll drive yourself crazy. Good luck 🙂

All of my interviews went very well, and I was sure I would get a ton of acceptances right away after listening to my interviewers worship me. But I kept getting waitlisted. I still don't know why for sure. My MCAT/GPA was above every school's average, interviews went well, and then waitlisted. 😕

So my answer is yes, right after the interview I knew that I would get in, and yes, I was later proven wrong.

PS: I would have probably gotten into all the schools off waitlist, but my first choice loved me from the beginning. I love my school. 😍 :luck: 👍 😀 🙂 😉 😛 😎

Since you got into davis, may i ask you what was your gpa and mcat score? The reason why i'm asking is because davis is my #2 choice school.

yes...im not a first year student yet but i will be come august 2005....i remember that during my interview my interviewer used words like "when you come", "your class is going through a curric change", "I think you'll fit in nicely", "i have no questions to ask you except why do u want to come here?", and the fact that he personally took me on a tour explaining to me that "this is where you will spend the first 2 years" and lastly.."ill look forward to seeing you here" ....etc etc...i hope u get the picture.

Nope, 2 interviews that went awesome -- waitlist
3rd one I didn't know if it was any good or not, and got in!

davis, more than any other med school that i know, looks beyond mcat and gpa. you cannot compare yourself to med students at davis in that fashion if you are hoping to find any sense of security. the good news is that if they like you then you'll get an interview and after that point you just have to try your hardest to get in : )

I thought I had a pretty good chance at one school when they set up a private meeting with the adcom staff, told me how happy they would be for me to attend their school, and more or less offered me a four-year full-tuition scholarship on the spot.

I wish the rest of my interviews had gone the same way!

Although I don't think this is the norm--yes. I had a good feeling about the schools I got accepted to, and a bad feeling about the waitlist schools.
