I am curious to know which schools FL applicants have received interviews and acceptances. I plan to apply to most of the FL schools, but I would like to know where else FL residents have received acceptances.

Also, anyone graduated or currently attends UCF? 😀

Thank you in advance! 😎

You should check out mdapplicants.com. It has a database of applicants and you can do searches across many criteria including state of residence. Good luck!

I am a FL resident, and I applied to 6 schools total. I applied to UF, USF, and UM. I was summarily rejected pre-interview at UF and UM. I interviewed at USF in early March, was placed on the waitlist 10 days later, and was accepted off of the waitlist on May 30. I declined the acceptance because I had already been accepted at Wake Forest off of the waitlist and I decided that it would be the best fit for me. Since I knew where I would be going, I withdrew my app from the other two schools that I interviewed at, Meharry and Howard.

Where are you thinking of applying? Definitely apply to all schools in FL if you are a resident. You never know what will happen. I wasn't going to apply to USF because I didn't think that I had a shot, and I ended up being accepted.

As for UCF, I did not attend, but I have many friends that did (I am from the area).

Hope this helps.

Hey Daisy,
I was a Florida applicant during the last cycle. Here is the breakdown of where I applied, interviewed, etc

I applied to about 12 places, and got secondaries from all of them.

I completed the following secondaries:
UAB, UF, USF, UMiami, Tulane, Emory, Wake, Baylor, Vandy, Yale.

I was offered interviews at all of the above, except Yale.

I went to Interviews at UF, USF, Emory and UAB. (by the time I had the other offers, I was already in at USF, and they were my consistent #2 or #3 choice).

I got into UF and USF, and was waitlisted at Emory, though they told me I would "probably" get in, if I showed interest.

I ended up choosing UF... though it was a tough call, as I really enjoyed USF. They have the friendliest and most professional Admissions staff I was exposed to.

Good luck with the Florida schools when you apply. They are all great. If I was applying again, I wouldn't change much, but I would definetly apply to FSU. I only hear good things about the new program they have.

(Any other UF CoM c/o 2007 people around?)

 Thank you everyone for responding and for all the advice.

I plan to apply to most of the FL med schools and other schools like Tulane (working on my MSPH here), Mt. Sinai, Emory, Temple, Tufts, and other Northern schools I have not decided on yet. I am quite nervous since this is my first year in the application process and I will also be taking the MCAT this August.

SDN will be very helpful and therapeutic during this process!

Thanks again! 🙂 If anyone else can give this FL local more advice, it will be greatly appreciated!

THaNKS! 😍

I am a Florida resident.

I was not a science major, and graduated from UF. I did not have the best stats, however, I did not have the worst. My post-bac GPA was around a 3.7.

I applied to all the instate schools.

I received secondaries from all FL schools, and received interviews from USF, Miami, and NOVA. I was waitlisted at USF (later accepted) and Miami. I was accepted at NOVA.

Rejected from UF post-secondary. (Not too upset. Didn't cost me a dime in secondary fees! "We took your money as an undergrad, we don't need anymore for your application" is what the office told me.

Applied to FSU, but never heard anything. They had some serious issues with transcripts, letters of recommendations. I went out of my mind trying to get the Office of Admin to understand what all they received. I had to send out my one transcript 4 different times. Ridiculous....

I had other interviews and acceptances out of state.

Happily attending USF in August.

hey i'm also a florida resident...i applied to uf, usf, and miami and about 17 other schools.....uf waitlisted me, but i withdrew cause i didn't like it there....i got into usf and mimai rejected me post secondary (from what i've heard cause of poiltics with my school..Nova)........out 0f the ones you plannnig to apply to, temple offered me an interview, but i had already got into my #1 choice (baylor)....tulane and tufts rejected me post-secondary......otehr northern schools, cinicnnati i got into, yale waitlist, g'town waitlist, gw rejected post-secondary...south alabama accepted...just to name a few...pm if you want a full list...basically, i would say apply to 15-20 schools if you have the money....its better to overapply and narrow, then to apply to too few and have to apply over again.....best of luck,

nero

I'm a FL resident, graduated from UF (B.S.) this past May. I applied to all Florida schools and was accepted at UM and UF about a week after the interview, and I was waitlisted at USF (accepted May 25th I think). I also applied to a whole bunch of schools along the east coast. I wound up interviewing at Duke, UConn, Einstein, Columbia, MSSM, NYU, UPitt, Hopkins, and Harvard. I was accepted at Columbia, UPitt, and Einstein; waitlisted at all others.

I probably would have gone to UF had I not gotten into Columbia...I love NYC. Apply where you want to and pray, that's what I did! This whole process is so ass-backwards you never know what's going to happen. Good Luck to you!

I'm another FL resident. I applied to USF, UF, and Miami and 29 other schools (I'm a re-applicant and I was desperate 🙂 ). UF and Miami rejected me post secondary but I got an interview at USF, and 7 other schools out of state: University of Cincinnati, St. Louis, NYMC, Drexel, UIC, Penn State, and Meharry. I have been accetped to NYMC, Drexel, and USF. I'm going to USF and I can't be happier. I was waitlisted at all the other schools. I avoided applying to many top schools because I figured it would be a waste of money for me.

My stats are not stellar but I did really well in a Masters program at Barry University which really helped me out with my application along with lots of volunteering in medical settings, research and with good LOR's (from what I hear).

My advice would be apply to all 4 FL schools, since they all seem to have programs that many people like a lot, and apply to a diverse range of schools out of state that traditionally accept a good percentage of people from out of state. Most of them are private schools. Check out the Medical school guide published by Princeton Review and the MSAR from the AAMC. If you have good stats are confident about the MCAT, don't be afraid to apply to a few top ten schools because you just never know what may happen. Good luck and defintely use SDN, its the best source of info about this whole screwed up process.

😍 WOW! You all are the best! 😀

Thank you so much for all the replies and advice! 🙂

I really do appreciate it! 😍

And, CONGRATS to everyone who got accepted to med school! YaY! 😀

Is it true that UF asks you which other schools you are applying to?

I am out of state looking to get into Miami. Does anybody have any advice/info on Miami? Any word on when they interview? My file is already complete there, so I am just waiting right now.

I hear they will take up to 35 out of state this year.

They took a lot of out of staters last year. When I interviewed there, they were really big on the fact that they were increasing the number of out of staters relative to what they did the year before. If I remember correctly, it was more than 40 out of a class of around 140 that they were trying to fill with out of state.....

Good luck. They are really big on volunteering and research experience.

Also, if you do get an interview and would like to live on the on-campus apts, make sure you put your name on the list/ waitlist when you get down there... even if you do not decide to attend, or don't get in, put your name on the list.

I believe they stated a max of 35 out of state students this year. I also think they are holding their out of state students to pretty rigorous standards. When they screened out of state secondaries they weeded out anybody below 3.6, which seems pretty harsh.

I have good reserach and volunteer exp. as I had two research internships at a graduate college and I was an RA which entailed a lot of volunteering. I really hope this helps me out at Miami.

Amit,
If I remember correctly Miami started interviewing last year in mid September. So, sit tight and good luck!😀

Just a heads up.
I got an APP complete email today and they will be giving their first interviews in TWO weeks. That means (she said) interview offers may start today/tommorrow by PHONE. Im keeping mine on in class today 🙂

Any news? I am bracing myself for the interview or big fat rejection. I have been complete for some time now; now I just sit and wait.

Got a phone invite from UF, nothing from the others so far.
mlm03 said he/she got an invite by phone, but hasnt clarified whether she was early desc or not.
