FLY,

one post if fine, but how come I have a feeling that when I check SDN tomorrow there will be 20 more of your threaded homework problems? Find a textbook that goes over these things, then, if you can't find an answer, ask SDN.

••••ha ha.. thats funny... You know what.. thats my webassign problems and them things are SO hard b/c you only get 3 submits and you have to have each and single letter of the answer right to get it right...

So, I just thought, since its a Pre-med site and people are taking MCATs this april and all, that it would help other people to refresh their memory and all..

Just wondering if I am I wrong on that assumption?? and if you guys like REALLY REALLY hate them posts??

I'd post my homework problems, but I can't figure out how to add greek symbols. So so many greek symbols. :(

This stuff makes me feel like an idiot.

Ok, tell me guys if its really annoying to you all.. b/c it does take hard work in my part to put it up here too... like saving the pic to my account at this website, then going back and cutting and pasting etc etc...

I really thought I was helping you all out...

Fly-

I have to agree with souljah, this is a website for those who are applying to med school. For those who are taking the MCATs, they either ask for advice on a prep course or for studying tips. I highly doubt anything you post that is as hard as you claim will be on the MCATs. From what I remember, it was a lot of carboxyl mechanisms if anything. Sorry buddy, try finding someone else to do your homework.

Hey chill out people. I personally thought FLY's idea was AWESOME!!! Good thinking on that one; "help yourself by helping me"? ha ha NICE :D It was hard to resist the added incentive too. I figured since pre-meds are always very happy to showcase their smartness, someone might as well get something out of it. I would have posted my homework too, but I honestly doubt that I'll get much help on this site or any site at all even

Thanks.... Original...

So guess what... I will try to stick with REALLY REALLY hard problems... and will not post here w/o reading the sections and taking a stab at them myself.... :D

(they are hard b/c u know, its webassign, which means a little old spelling mistake on a 50 lettered answer could be wrong b/c of a single little mistake and I have to totally do the whole thing again and again without knowing what was wrong with it... and to top it all off, I have no friends at this new school I just transferred to and I leave alone off campus... and this email group I started got cut off b/c most people thought sharing answers online was cheating...

anyway.. point well taken guys.. Will try to stick with Hard Hard problems...

Honestly, though, I'd rather not. :D Math gives me headaches these days. :p

Honestly, though, I'd rather not. :D Math gives me headaches these days. :p •••••Definitely! But the probably less than 15 math majors on this site hardly compares to the over 400 people here that can happily beat to death an Ochem question the very minute it is posted.

I feel you on that headache. I'll be glad when it's over. My body has involuntarily and prematurely switched to chill mode. I'm acting like I'm on vacation already and that really bothers me.
:p

I like FLY's posts..I had fun doing nomenclature the other day and it was good practice in case I have to retake the mcat....but a thread for each one is a little too much. FLY, why don't you just keep it in one thread called "FLY's HW" or something and then people will only read it if they want to. I like doing your homework!

What got me was you were passing off YOUR homework as "brain teasers" and other crap to get people to do them. That's a BS way to do things in my opinion, and you know it.--Trek

PS: you talk about spelling errors in "webassign" but that's crap- anyone can spell methyl and has an equal chance of making a mistake. You want people to DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Not cool.

My answer (wrong answer)
Right answer

4-ehtyloctane
4-ethyloctane
(that was a typo error, hard to keep up with all the spelling.
and I knew the answer, but thats 1 out of 12 point gone.)

8,8,8-tribromo-3-ethyl-6,6-dimethyloctanol
9,9,9-tribromo-3-ethyl-7,7-dimethyl-4-nonanol
(hope it would tell us what we are doing wrong)

6-bromo-4,5-dichloro-2,2-dimethyl-3-octanol
6-bromo-4,5-dichloro-6-ethyl-2,2-dimethyl-3-octanol
(fine, I missed an ethyl group, but I knew the basic idea.)

2-chlorobutane
2-bromobutane
(Bromine just didnt look the same at 1.00 AM.)

4-bromo-4,6-dichloro-1-ethyl-1-cycloctanol
4-bromo-4,6-dichloro-1-ethylcyclooctanol
(At least tell me what I am doing, or highlight what was wrong, I
think I spend a lot of time on it, messing around with numbers.)

4-bromo-1,1,3-triethyl-3,4-dimethylcycloheptane
4-bromo-1,6,6-triethyl-1,2-dimethylcycloheptane
(I was so close, yet not close enough.. costed me a point.)

2-bromo-5-chlorohexane
2-bromo-4-chlorohexane
(I was just a number off, thus its 1 point,
which could possibly be the difference b/w an A and an A-)

We have 3 submissions, but that means more time I am wasting looking for a wrong answer, which I could never come to see..

My first Exam: 93/100 (93%)
The Sum of my first 12 webassigns: 120/132 (91%) umm, not that bad as I thought...

But the fact is, we have 3 tests and 25 webassings, both amount to 300 pts each, so they both count the same, but I am loosing more points on something that should be easier than tests while spending more time on it...

And, I am not making you guys do it either, b/c I am smart enough by now that I do all my homeworks and look at the posts only to see, what could I have done wrong...
and I am actually trying to, make you guys go over it and refresh your memory..

So let this be the last post on this thread and let me just conclude by saying, please take a stab at them.. it will not only help you, but it helps me and other users who are just peeking in..

FLY....

What the hell is going on here? Ochem? I'm gonna just pretend I didn't stumble upon this thread.

Yeah I had my fill of organic chemistry WAY before I was finished with the course, so I definitely don't want to see that **** here. I guess we could post wrong answers just to have fun with the guy. And I don't buy the line about its helping us by refreshing our memories, there are plenty of problems at the end of the chapter for people who are currently taking organic. As for the rest of us, I think we have better things to do.

I just wanted to say that the webassign excuse for getting it wrong is not good enough. On my real orgo exam, I spelled fluoro (sp?) wrong and got the whole problem wrong. My prof had done research and explained that one tiny mistake in nomenclature when looking up something for data would mess eveything up, i.e. he would look up the wrong compound or use false info, etc. This means that you should be just as careful on webassign as you would be on a real test. And on a real test, the test wouldn't tell you what you are doing wrong, so why should webassign??? You're lucky enough they let you submit your answers more than once.

But I still don't mind you posting, just don't blame your problems on the program. You could easily look in your textbook to find the reason for your mistake. :)

can we just close this thread...

if you've done your work and need some extra clarification, then fine, ask the board...but don't post your damn homework questions up here...imagine if everyone started doing that!
