I'm kind of struggling with which aspect of my life to focus on in the diversity essay. Would love some feedback. I made a list of all the things that are "diverse" in my life:

  • Slightly older applicant (26)
  • Music teaching background (previous career)
  • Scuba diver
  • Wide variety of hobbies
  • Experience working with a wide variety of culture/communities
I'm leaning towards the last bullet. My undergraduate and work experiences have exposed me to quite a wide range of people with background both similar to and different from my own. Is this a legitimate aspect of my own personal diversity that I can focus on for this essay? Would it be better to focus on one of the other bullets? If it makes any difference, my PS focused quite a bit on the music teaching bit. I mentioned the scuba diving in there as well.

Thanks!

If you can combine the music and scuba (i.e. making music underwater, jk), the combo would float above and drown out the competition and sound great!

But seriously combo of both...

Thank you! Honestly, those are two of my most favorite things in life. However, I did kind of hash them out a bit in my PS. Do you think it would be bad to be repetitive?

I think you would stand out the most with your scuba diving and music, even if you did talk about them in your PS. Can you talk about other aspects of music or scuba diving?
