I never had any of my letter writers ask but here are the guidelines AMCAS provides that you can send your letter writer to assist them. I emailed my letter writers the following:
Guidelines for writing a LOR for a medical school applicant:
Letters of recommendation must be signed, dated, and on official letterhead.
If needed, my AAMC ID is 12345678 and the Letter ID is XYZ
Letters of recommendation should be addressed to the attention of a general admissions board (e.g., "Dear Admissions Committee:") and not Career Services. You are being redirected...
I also attached this as a PDF (Guidelines for Writing a LOR for X Student) Career Services | University of Pennsylvania
UPenn describes what is important on the website linked above
How to submit my LOR: Please include the “AMCAS LOR Dr. XYZ” PDF with the LOR when submitting AMCAS Letter Writer Application
"This application enables letter authors to upload PDF versions of letter(s) securely to AMCAS rather than send letters via the mail. Your letter writer will be required to register as a letter writer and will need your AAMC ID and AMCAS Letter ID in order to upload your letter(s)."
