Is the MCAT hard you ask? 🙂
Well, think of the hardest test you can imagine, and multiply it ten times, thats the MCAT. The MCAT tests not only your knowledge of physics, general chemistry, biology, and organic chemistry, but is also tests if you can apply it and also if you can think through problems.
The MCAT is quite possibly the hardest test you'll ever take. What year are you in school?

Let's not overdo it. As much as the MCAT is feared (rightfully so, given how much weight it carries), I found it to be as much an endurance test as an intellectual one. If you prepare adequately, the actual content isn't so bad. It's the LENGTH of time you're there that saps your energy. And as for it being the hardest test you'll ever take, I certainly think the USMLE's easily measure up to it.

The real deal on the MCAT is that the ONLY thing that matters is how well you do compared to the other test takers.

For example, lets say you only get 5% of the questions right. Well automatically you might think, 'well i sucked so i have to retake it.' Not so fast. If a large % of the other test takers got only 4% of the questions right, then guess what you just got an above average score on the MCAT. (maybe 30 or so)

I know that scenario is far fetched but just trying to illustrate my point.

So, the MCAT really has no meaning at all from a purely individual stance... you must always place it into the context of the other test takers.

The real question is not 'Is the MCAT hard.'

The real question is 'how hard do I perceive this MCAT compared to the other test takers?'

Alright, let me rephrase myself. The MCAT's material is difficult, however, I believe if you are prepared you'll do well.
The thing I wanted to stress is to prepare, it determines your life. Make sure you study and do your best.

A bit too dramatic, I would say.

The MCAT is extremely important.

If you go into the exam thinking that it is the key piece of the puzzle that will "determine your life", you may have difficulty in the exam.

If you take the MCAT with the attitude that this is just another test that you can do well on to prove to others that you deserve a place in medical school, you may do much better.

Best of luck to you...and to me as well...I take it in April.
