Whether you were accepted, waitlisted, or rejected post-interview, what did your decision letter look like? Were acceptances in a large envelope or in letter form, etc. for all decisions.

MCP looks to be my last chance for an acceptance this cycle. I know I'm getting something within the next three weeks so I'd appreciate any info even if you withdrew. Thanks all!

My waitlist letter came in a very thin envelope. At first I thought I was rejected. Basically it has a little slip of paper and you mark whether you want to accept or decline being on the waitlist. I wish I knew what an acceptance letter from MCPHU looked like.

Anybody... I've seen how many people on SDN have withdrawn from MCP, which I thank you all for. Info would be greatly appreciated.

I got waitlisted too. Thin envelope. Most likely my last chance for this cycle also.

The acceptance letter comes in a large 8x10 envelope. Enclosed with your letter is a formal letter to accept it and an application to their PIL program. Good luck.

Hey Dr. Will,

When did you interview? And do you mind sharing your stats? I'm waiting for MCP myself.

I too am still waiting on them...I interview at the beginning of this past month. I was waitlisted elsewhere so lets see what happens here. Dr. Will...how long have you been waiting. When I went they said it'd take 8 weeks but Im really hoping that's just the worst case and that I'll hear sooner. Anyone know if they really do take the 8 weeks they advertise? I know some people here have been saying they had to wait a long time while others seem to have heard quickly...what's the conensus?

DesiMD,

I interviewed at the end of March and they too told us six to eight weeks. It's been five weeks for me. I got a call last week because they needed something for my file so it could go to committee. I'm hoping that meant I'd be going within days, so hopefully I'll hear back sooner than three weeks. Good luck to all still waiting.

I know that we are all tired of waiting. But beggers can't be chosers. We need them more than they need us. I have been on the waitlist since mid October! That's right I was on the second day they started interviewing. They started interviewing on Oct. 1 and I went on Oct. 2. I am so pissed at being like the first one they put on the waitlist and still waiting. I am considering just withdrawing and going to another school. I am glad I have that option.

CityIvy,

BTW I also got into PCOM(philadelphia osteo school) and Howard. I turned down PCOM because I want an MD and I am 99% sure I am going to Howard.

I'm betting the weigh most of their decision on everything else since they get so many applicants. I don't know.

Dr. Will and others,

There average maybe 29 and 3.43 but those numbers are deceiving. They have an extensive amount of post-bac programs that have an unofficial in with the medical school. Notice I said unofficial because there are no promises made. These students either do a 1-year postbac or 2 year masters. A lot of them get accepted this way with numbers oftern below the mean. That means that the general applicant pool usually must have higher than the average 29 and 3.43 to be competitive.

I did not mean to make anyone feel worst by posting the stuff about the unofficial in that their postbac and master students have. I just know that the averages are brought down SLIGHTLY by these programs.

I hope you get the interview. It's a nice school and it would be great to be close to family.

33. jesus CHRIST!! nobody wants me!!! I got a waitlist from MCP today. son of a BITCH. what the hell. what do you guys think the chances are of getting off their waitlist? i'm gonna call tomorrow, cuz someone posted that lisa said they were gonna give out 800 acceptances. are you ****ing telling me that i'm not good enough to get ONE of those acceptances??

UCSFreak had a HORRIBLE interview there were he basically all but spit his cough-hawkers in the interviewers face, and he got waitlisted. is my application so bad that with a pretty decent interview i still get waitlisted?? the interview was a stress interview but at the end i felt like i had his respect as a professional/future doctor and with all the ****ing interest i showed memorizing their entire pamphlet and regurgitating it during the interview..i was almost sure i'd get an acceptance. What gives?!

Wow!! 7 weeks??? They are going to get to March interviews a in a few weeks? :-( Man Im gonna be waiting for an eternity then because it's only been a little over two weeks for me as I was an April interviewer. I dont know now if I can really count on hearing anything too positive from them because it's going to be so late in the game that I hear back...hopefully I have some other things lined up soon...ugh. Good luck to you guys though!!

My interview went EXTREMELY smooth, almost too smooth. The doctor (generally regarded as one of the best teachers for med students) just kept on saying how good an applicant I was, how qualified I was, and that I was sure to end up in med school next year. She didn't ask me many questions, and even read an exerpt of one of my letters of rec!

Yeah, I will be the first to admit that I had a shoddy interview.
My timeline: Received invite at the end of November, interviewed on January 23, received my waitlist letter during the week of April 15th. I had counted the weeks since my interview and it was something like 11 before I heard anything. The funy thing was that I emailed Lisa around the April 8th inquiring about my app status and she said something was mailed to me on the April 1. It took that envelope (which had the correct address) 2 weeks to get from Philly to San Francisco. Go figure.

Caveman: I'm sorry to hear the bad news. I was so sure that you would get an acceptance. What went wrong?

UCSFreak: Didn't you have really good numbers too?

I interviewed on the 18th of january and got waitlisted on the 16th of march. Was accepted off the waitlist the next week. My stats aren't that good. 28O and a 3.8 GPA. My interview was horrible and lasted for only 10 minutes.
I was sure that I would get rejected. Will be attending MCPHU in fall:)

Good luck to those who are still waiting.

I, too, am among the waitlisted. My stats suck, but two of the other people who interviewed the same day I did had stats close to a 3.7 and MCATs of 32-33, and they both got in. Medicine2006's thoughts on the school's published stats are right on. Unfortunately, those numbers are misleading.

My numbers were ok (3.6, 32P). I definitely don't think that it is the strong point of my app. I have done some pretty interesting stuff in the areas of peds oncology, volunteered in a children's cerebral palsy PT program, working on a research project at UCSF, etc.
I am sure you guys will be fine. Numbers get you the interview, not necessarily accepted. I am sure you guys will hear some goodnews from MCP. I tend to think that they look beyond numbers, when handing out acceptances. :)

Does anyone know if MCP flat out rejects anyone Post-interview? Seems like everyone either got an acceptance or waitlist.

Dr. Will I know for a fact that MCPHU flat out rejects people post-interview. I have 3 friends that I know got rejected this way. They interview over 1600 and accept 800; there is no way they would put the other 800+ people on the wait-list.

Did they interview that many people? Lisa told us about 1100-1200 would be interviewed. If so, I'm worried again.

Lisa told my group (I was there earlier this month) that they plan to interview about somewhere close to 1400 and accept 800 or so, and up to the time I was there they had accepted close to 650 :-(. But she said that last year they pulled people off waitlist up to the day orientation began and that she expects that she'll be doing that again this year. Dunno what to make of that, but the 650 number has me nervous...as time is passing and Im reading stuff on here I get less and less hopeful about being there next year...we'll see though. Best of luck to anyone else still waiting...

The admissions people don't seem to have a good formula for filling their class. When I interviewed in October they said they wanted to interview 1200. Then I hear Lisa its more like 1400 and last week I hear closer to 1600 people. The only constant is that they want to accept 800. For a class of 250 that means 650 have to decline before they can even begin to look at those of us on the waitlist. And then there could be 200-300 people on this list. What if I'm on the bottom of that list??? Oh things look grim to me. Even though I know they have a lot of movement compared to most schools that is still a lot of people who have to decline!

Don't be down yet. You are not going to have to wait for 650 people to withdraw right now. Many people withdrew acceptances earlier in the year. I withdrew in Feb. when i was accepted to one of my top choices. And one more stat. that I remember. Last year, MCP interviewed 1700 or so applicants and offered 850 or so spaces in their class. I do not think that they have offered all of those spaces yet. Best of luck!

Thought I'd cross post this here in case somebody isn't checking the other MCPHU threads:

Later interviewees, don't underestimate your chances of getting in either outright or off the waitlist. Last year I interviewed on April 2 and was accepted outright on May 31, so as long as they haven't considered your application yet you still have a shot at an outright accpetance. Also, for you waitlistees, I know that at least two other people, out of the ten or so of us that interviewed that day, were accepted off the waitlist very close to the begining of school so you have a shot to get in right up until the day classes start. If you get in you'll be seeing a lot of me next year becasue I'm one of the class of 2005 presidents so we'll be helping you transition into medical school. If you have any questions let me know.

Tony
