I am looking to begin my post-bacc this summer after having been out of school since '02. This will be an absolute career change for me. Is anyone here once a post-bacc who is now in med school? Any career changers out there that have any advice, recommendations, stories, et cetera? I'm in NY now and looking into Columbia and Hunter for my post-bacc. Grad from a top-tier university with a major in the social sciences. GPA ~3.7. No science in college.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Check out the Post-bacc forum. You will find that helpful. My recommendation -- go to Bryn Mawr. The program is fast and almost a guarenteed admission to medical school.

Thanks. I've checked the post-bacc forum. Just hoping to get more info from current students.

2 yrs of NIH landed me at PENN. NIH, something to consider if you are interested in having research as career. A lot of my MD classmates also spent 1 or 2 years at NIH. 😎

Consider SUNY Stony Brook. Not as structured as some schools, but great bang for buck if you're in-state.

I graduated in 1999 with a BFA in dance, danced professionally, then took my prereqs at multiple no name schools in Chicago (not a formal post-bac program). I was accepted to 5 medical schools and am now a MS1. If you do well in your prereq courses, have an interesting background, know the real reasons you want to switch careers and are able to convey that in essays and interviews, you will do fine 🙂
