Congratulations to catengr on his acceptance to my alma mater. I've been reading some of the posts on NC medical schools. Everyone seems to think of ECU SOM as some second rate medical school. WE continually rank as one of the top programs in primary care medicine. The US and NEws report currently has us ranked #17. Overall, we do pretty well in the match. Usually, 60-70% of our class receive their first choice of programs. At the end of the day, graduates at from all four medical schools are called doctor. Clinically, I beleive our students are better trained than most NC medical students. Duke, Wake, and UNC-CH are very research driven programs. Duke and UNC share some of the same patient population. ECU and Wake have pretty isolated patient poulations. Personally, I believe a major strength is our class size. During the clinical years, we are no more than 10 per rotation. This allows better interaction between attendings, residents, and students. No matter what medical school you attend, you'll probably become an educated, well rounded physician.
