for those out-of-staters rejected at u of washington?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When did you guys here from them? I haven't heard a thing, but I fear a similar fate.

i got the letter today, although the status check said i should have heard on the 4th of december. 🙁

Yeah, I got it too: You would be a competitive MSTP candidate.

Argh.

okay, did anyone NOT get that in their rejection letter?

I wonder how many out-of-region (non-WWAMI) applicants they accept, or whether they accept any at all. I wish I'd had this statistic before spending $100+ to apply there. I think that if they don't accept any out-of-region applicants, then it's unethical of them to take our money.

MSAR says they do, albeit a very small percentage. Keep that chin up, hopefully things will work out.

Tweetie

Mine said to apply for MSTP TOO. I actually asked someone in the minority affairs office if this was a standard rejection letter- they said 'no'. But this thread seems to indicate otherwise.

I didn't apply to U of Washington, but I know they accept a very, very small number of out-of-region applicants (perhaps a few percent), most of whom are underrepresented minorities and/or are heavily interested in primary care work.

Straight from the horse's website:

"Residents of the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, or Idaho are eligible to apply. Individuals with a demonstrated interest in research may apply for the MD/PhD program (MSTP) regardless of residency. Applicants from outside this five-state region who come from disadvantaged backgrounds or who have demonstrated a commitment to serving underserved populations will be considered."
