How confident did you feel going into the real MCAT on the subject matter that u made a 14 or 15 on? As far as the sciences, did you feel like you knew every single topic that was on the aamc list of science topics? Did you have any doubts about any particular thing or did you have it all airtight through lots of preparation? I feel like I will do the best on either Verbal or Physical Sciences because that is what i'm spending the most time on, and I'm hoping for a 14 in one or--if i'm really really lucky--both. I doubt that will happen but I think if I had to choose I stand the best chance at getting a 14 in PS than anything else. So back to my original question..how confident did you feel before the exam on the subject matter that you ended up acing?

mecute,

I got a 14 on both PS and VR. For PS I would not say I felt I had an "airtight" understanding of everything, but I did know everything in genchem cold and for physics I understood most things except some rare topics. In most practice AAMC tests for PS I would be 100% sure of all but maybe 5 questions and consistently scored 14-15. In kaplan the results were more erratic -- sometimes I would not finish in time and be unsure of a lot (usually scored about 13 anyway).

For verbal, I scored on most practice tests 12-13. I concentrated on figuring out why I got certain ones wrong. The real verbal section I was unsure of many questions (maybe 10) but I suppose I guessed well.

Good luck.

How long did you guys prepare for the mcat and what did you do to prepare? How long ago did you take your prereq's in school?

Thanks in advance

Yo, I got a 14 on PS as well. Going into the test I felt pretty confident about the PS section. I made sure that I knew all of the topics in and out. I studied with the materials that Kaplan had in their library and just really focused on understanding what I did wrong on every question I missed. So after I found one wrong I would go look at the explanation, and then go back to the review book to look at the theory behind that topic to make sure I wouldn't get a similar one wrong the next time. I think I was scoring 12-13 for PS on Kaplan's tests. After that, on the real test part of it is luck that you get questions that are easy for you to answer, and part of it is your frame of mind during the test. I just happened to get a good test for me and I felt pretty confident throughout the test.

As far as study time, it was erratic and I didn't really have too much of a plan. I took the August test....I tried studying a little during the spring semester, and then some during the summer, but I couldn't really get it into gear until relatively shortly before the test. So I'm sure that doesn't really help. Knowing all the sciences cold really helps though, so try and do that. Once you do that it's just one less thing to worry about during the test. I won't give advice for verbal, cause I didn't even get close to a 14. 😛 Happy MCATing! 🙂
