Are you able to submit the AMCAS application without MCAT scores (meaning you haven't taken MCAT and will take MCAT in future date)?

Or do you need to have MCAT scores (meaning you have taken MCAT and received MCAT scores) to be able to submit AMCAS application?

You can submit it before you have an MCAT score, and a lot of schools will send you secondaries too, but don't expect interviews until your scores are in.

So AMCAS doens't just verify your application and then wait for your april mcat scores to be released before sending your application to medical schools? Would it be better to wait then until mid-June to submit your app so you can send the whole package to med schools?

It doesn't really matter. The medical schools just download the MCAT scores directly when they come in.

You can submit your AMCAS well before April MCAT scores come out. If I remember correctly from last year, however, AMCAS doesn't start transmitting verified information to schools until after at least a couple of weeks after MCAT scores are posted. Your schools may accept some preliminary information as soon as you submit (and therefore you may get some secondaries) but the official verified AMCAS doesn't transmit until early July. If you submitted early, however, presumably you'll be verified first and transmitted first - you'll definitely be in the "first batch".

This is great so long as you are comfortable submitting prior to receiving your scores. I had a couple of friends who submitted AMCAS early and then didn't get the MCAT score they needed - and, once you submit your AMCAS, it's gone. Again - this is as far as I know and remember - there is no way to stop your AMCAS once you've submitted because you've decided to wait for an August score.

If you have your AMCAS ready to go and push the "submit" button just as soon as scores are posted in June, you'll still definitely be in the first batch sent - and you won't have the risk of not knowing your MCAT score.
