For those with multiple acceptances, do you feel bad about withdrawing?

Does anyone else feel kind of guilty for telling a school that accepted you that you don't wanna go there? You probably had a great experience with the interviewer, and in my case, he even emailed me to congratulate me on the acceptance. And their acceptance letter always sounds so nice. It's like they went through the trouble to make sure you like them during your interview and vice versa and now that I have a better offer, I'm basically saying screw you. Of course I know that they could care less, but still, just a feeling.

I can't say that I have, but understand where you are coming from. I declined an interview and kind of felt bad about it. I know it's opening up another spot for another applicant, but didn't enjoy making the phone call.
Good luck and congrats

Nope....the way i see is that there are a bunch of applicants out there. If i feel bad about the acceptance, knowing that i wont be attending there, i feel better withdrawing knowing that the school may be someone else's dream school that when i withdraw they will be accepted.

NO! cuz then you free up space for the waitlisted kids like moi

I was having this discussion with someone on here, just the other day. I was telling them the way to look at it, is there will always be applicants on the waitlist who will be willing to take their spot and the class will be filled at the end one way or another, so they shouldn't feel bad because their giving up a seat might open a doorway to another persons chance to medical school.

Eventually all things work themselves out.

this is definitely true, but i suppose i do feel a little bad about it. you get so happy about one acceptance and then another better one comes along and that other school just gets pushed aside. it's like you're a parent and you just had a new kid and the old kid gets no attention anymore.

i feel bad. like i lied and said i loved them... and now i'm rejecting them because something better came along. i feel fickle.

The irony here is, of course, that med schools are the same way, if not worse. Do you think they're the least bit remorseful when they cash your check and send oh so many a nice "Thanks for playing, please try again certificate"?

I highly doubt they give an after-thought about rejecting/waitlisting/putting you on hold when a better applicant comes along--so I wouldn't sweat it, they don't. Send them a post-acceptance rejection letter with vigor!

I definitely hate withdrawing from schools, because I don't really have one dream school. I wish I could attend all of them. Basically my favorite school is usually the one that I most recently visited, but ask me in an hour, and I might change my mind two or three times between now and then. 😛 😳

Oh my gosh, I feel EXACTLY the same way.

But I think that's why I don't worry about it much any more: I know I'll be happy at any one of these schools, and it's just a matter of choosing what flavor the next fourish years of my life will be like.

Then again, maybe the ease is just the calm before the May storm of decision making.
