My opinion of Tom Cruise was less than admirable even before he came out on the Today Show with his assinine comments. I missed the show last night, but below is a short link that describes a 48 Hours special depicting a horrific incident that occurred in March 2003 as a result of a family's refusal to seek psychiatric treatment for their schizophrenic son due to their strong beliefs in scientology.

It was an awesome show! I never realized how bizarre the Scientologist theory was, until I saw that.. If you get a chance, watch it!

The best part was when they had a professor on the show say "there is no such thing as mental illness."

And the woman that insisted "there is no evidence whatsoever that antipsychotic drugs are effective."

The woman that was murdered by her paranoid schizophrenic son was pretty high up in the "church" and according to their beliefs she had reached an "OT" level where nothing bad could ever happen to her. I wonder if scientologists consider being murdered by your own son to be something bad. That incident is proof that thier belief system is plain wrong and that the continued followers are *****s like Cruise.

This is the reason why such religion like Scientology/Jehovah's Witness/etc should be banned from having any kind of influence towards the health of an Individual, especially a child.

This article is a perfect example and hopefully somebody can take the time to write to their congressman's/legislators office and demand that this kind of religion practice should be banned.

Or maybe do one better and actually go into politics and help write legislation...But unfortunately the practice of the religion will never be banned, and it's sad to say that no laws were broken. The man was not a minor and it was within his rights to refuse treatment. Of course his family's assinine beliefs were the cause of his refusal, but I think mulling over that would be a never-ending discussion. I think all we can do as practitioners/future practitioners is raise awareness of mental illness amongst lay people who are in denial and/or assume psychiatry is not a real science and that mental illness does not exist.

does any1 know where i can see the video??
