Lewis structures, mitosis and meiosis, ploidy, valence energies, periodic table trends, nomenclature, etc

How do you make yourself study the easy stuff that you know that you know, but that you need to brush up because it's been so long?

All of the stuff that I aced years ago needs to be reviewed, but it just seems like a waste of time. How do you motivate yourself to read through 20 pages about all the different quantum theories about electron energetics?

I get that it needs to be done...but i keep thinking "I know this **** already, why should I waste time reviewing the meaning of valence electrons and electron orbitals?"

I understand how you feel, but I would personally be very upset to miss a question on the real MCAT on an easy topic. Sure I felt I hard a firm grasp on certain topics, but realized I actually forgot certain nuances after reviewing. However, if you truly do know it, don't waste your time.

Look at it this way, I'd rather waste some time and go into the MCAT knowing that I know all the possible topics rather than studying half-ass and miss a couple questions an easy passage.
Also, judging by your tone (you aced it years ago), you probably don't need to read word for word...just scan and stop when you don't understand something🙂

It's funny that you mention mitosis/meiosis as I can't stand reviewing it at all. Not because its particularly difficult or anything either... I really have no idea why I dislike it so much. You just gotta suck it up and do it because just knowing that you reviewed it once will give you a significant amount of peace of mind.

Take one of the BR or AAMC practice tests that is regarded as tougher. Now watch your score plummet from a 42 to a 33 because of these "stupid things," aka "details."
