hey anybody with EM? I feel that a lot of my studying wwas worthless because most of the test was reading comprehension.

Verbal = insane

PS = Hard some insane passages

BS= insane (mostly read comp)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the VR was hard as sh%t. Here's how I broke it down.

VR= sucked huge elephant a$$

PS= so so

BS= also so so

Although the things that I thought were easy I could've gotten wrong. So a lot of it's luck ya know!!!!! So we'll see how it all works out.

Brad

Hmm... i thought the verbal was pretty straightforward, there was only one passage that i thought was very hard. can't recall what it was now.. if i remember i will post it. other than that, i thought the PS was much easier than the practice tests i took from princeton review. and finally, i thought the BS was a little more difficult. seemed like the test was mainly reading comprehension, and that i really didn't need a lot of the crap princeton review wants you to learn. Luckily i didn't waste my time learning that stuff.

I thought the verbal was very difficult. I finished everything in time thankfully. But I was rushing through the last three passages. Some of the questions were difficult and some were easy, but the difficult ones made me waste too much time thinking about them. Im hoping for a 10 but I felt like I would deserve an 8.
Physical sciences were okay. I was stuck on that passage where you had to calculate the electric field and the power or something when they gave you the current and the voltages. It probably wasnt that hard, I just temporarily forgot all my E&M. I came back when I finished the rest of the section and I think I got it. And what was that passage about firing particles through tubes and getting ionization potentials and parallel whatchamacallits with cathodes and anodes. Did that passage make any sense, I was totally clueless. Besides that, PS was alright.
Writing was the same as the other sections, progress and social values. Not too bad.
Biological sciences is my best section and I wasnt too surprised by anything. There was more orgo and it was a little harder than on practice tests I have taken. That passage on the Bombay blood type took me a while. I still had plenty of time at the end to ponder that amino acid discrete problem at the end with the two pKa values.
Overall, not too bad, except for verbal which was a bitch.

I had form EK which was very similar to EM. We had some of the same verbal passages, although there were differences in verbal. I thought the verbal was fairly straightforward and easy, but verbal always tends to be my strong suit. However, normally i finish with 20 minutes to spare...with this VR section i was pushed to the last 10 seconds. I don't know if that means it was harder, or just whether I took longer to really think about the questions. I had one rather difficult one on "concept prototypes" and the "meteor" one which others found kinda difficult. Let's just pray this all equalizes out :) .

Yeah, the PS could go any way. I thought it was hard. It seems the people who thought VR was hard, though PS was easy and vice versa for the people who thought VR was easier. That passage with the simple and multiple particle firing tubes with the ionizing gas or whatever the hell that was, was impossible. I saved that one for last and was rushed through it, I pretty much was like WTF for that one. Glad someone else found it the same as well :wink: but that was the only passage that stands out in my mind. PS usually always sucks for me. I found both PS and BS exercises in logical guessing, I hope I guessed the right way!

BS was okay. I actually liked the Bombay passage, it took me a little while to think it through, but I think I got it okay. The BS section was actually pretty heavy on the immunology, thank goodness for me taking that immunology class that I had to pass/fail cuz I almost failed it :) . But that Bombay passage, while seemingly concerning genetics, actually had a lot to do with immunology and how immunology affects co-dominance. I think that made it easier for me. The orgo was intense but straightforward - again, an exercise in logical guessing. I find that what makes sense to me isn't the one that makes sense to the graders :wink: . We had that grignard/hvz reaction at the end and I was straining my memory to remember my class notes. MgBr could be replaced by something-Li, right?

I forget the pKa values one, what was it about?
Oh, and I complained in a previous post that I don't know how people are supposed to know what the heck is a vole is except that maybe it sounds like a "mole." I guessed right, but come on! And for those where English is not their first language, how are they supposed to know what a vole is?

I had the passages on concept prototypes and the meteor too. I thought the meteor one was hard and it kinda discouraged me because it was the first passage on my section. 20 minutes to spare? Wow, youre a quick one. I just believe with verbal, some people got it and some people dont. Its a lot harder to get better at verbal than other sections of the test.
Yeah, I put something-Li too on that orgo question. Oganometallic reagents do the same thing, grignard and lithium reagents. You just want the carbon atom to have a negative charge so it is a good nucleophile.
I forgot all about that vole question. I had no idea what it was so i guessed fish. I guessed wrong. That really sucks, I hope they throw that question out. That is in no way common knowledge. The pKa values of the amino acid one was on the last page. Im sure it was a lot easier than I made it out to be. It may not have been on form EK.

I had form EH.

My first passage was meteor and the second passage was about 'a young writer'.
I spent like 25 mintues on first two passages. The writer one had 10 questions and I thought it was impossible.
The prototype one was rather ok I thought. (I put 'front door' for the last question, but I think it is 'wedding cake'.)

PS was hard even though it is my strongest section. I think it is partly because I didn't study at all. I wasted so much time deriving motion formulas and stuff. I usually finish PS with 30~40 minutes to spare, but I was down to last second this time.
I spent 15 minutes on that stupid cathod anode plates. That was hard...
I thought the hardest discrete question was 'why pressure in your arm is greater than pressure in your leg?' I put 'greater flow rate' but I wasn't sure.

BS was medium. Very conceptual.
There was one discrete question that pissed me off. "How many stereoisomers in some kind of Heptadiene?"
I drew the structure but I could find only one stereocenter. There was no answer choice for '2'.
Also, the discrete question about tranformation of Energy. (from photon to something). I put 'reduction' but I took biochem when I was a freshman.
I guessed 'snake' for the vole. I have been speaking English for only 7 years. How the hell am I supposed to know what a vole is?
I have a feeling that that was an experimental question.

OH yeah, the young writer one kinda made you think. THe prototype one was just really weird. I put vacuum cleaner because that's the only thing that i thought could be around 5 feet, since I'm 5'11" and and a vacuum cleaner comes to my mid-torso. I can't believe i actually had to use my height as a relation point. However, while this may be the only answer that is actually 5 feet (i don't know about wedding cake??) I have no idea if it answered the question and fit the prototype they asked for. That's the only q i remember being kinda confused by for that passage so maybe the rest of it was okay.

Legi, that discrete question was DIRECTLY off a past AAMC! I think it could have been off AAMC VI. I guess we got their experimental q? I missed it, too. Guess I didn't pay attention the first time. The answer was "Greater, cuz the column of blood between the arm and leg as a hydrostatic pressure." essentially P=rho*g*h. the leg has greater height than the arm. blood flow is independent of viscosity or resistance.

Oh yeah, i remember the heptadiene one. I was just like feck it and put 3 cuz it was the next higher up. Who knows, whatever :)

I put wedding cake for the question in that prototype passage. And I thought the writer passage was pretty tough too.
I remember that pressure in your arm and leg question. I thought about it for a while but I dont remember what my answer was. Flow rate sounds right because of bernoulli's equation P+pgh+pv^2 = constant. So since the blood in your leg is at a lower height, the flow rate must be higher since the pressure is also lower.
I dont remember how many sterioisomers I got for that one but Im pretty sure the answer I got was one of the options.
And I think I put reduction too, for that photosynthesis problem? I just thought that photons excite the electron and the excited electron moves along the photosynthesis pathway through reduction. Something like that.

I put 4 for # of stereoisomers because I thought no molecule can have 3 stereoisomers. (# of stereoisomers= 2^n where n is # of stereocenter)

My height is 6'2. I realize a front door must be taller than my height since I don't bend my back all the time. :D And I have a mini vacuum cleaner.. <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> which is like one feet..
In any case, that question was bull $hit.

There was this titration question that went like this:

how many ml on NaOH must you add to have [H+]=[OH} in titration 3. On that passage, however, there were 2 titration 3s!! Do you guys remember that?

i think i put down 7 ml for that one instead of 25ml

I remember that question, but I cant remember how the figures were set up. 25 does sound familiar. Im pretty sure that was my answer. Did you put 7 because you were confused about werent sure which titration you were supposed to use for the question?

I think i put 25 mL as well, i kinda remember the graph.

I don't really know if I put 3 stereoisomers, but I could have! i can't really remember the question and the possible answers, or even what I put. But right, I guess it wouldn't really make sense to have 3 stereoisomers...unless maybe there was a meso compound or something in there? Oh, whatever! :)

yeah it seems that if you add 25 ml, both concentrations would be exactly 0. However, if you pick 7ml, you would be at the buffer zone of the weak acid, where H+ approximately equals OH-. The question did say "approximately" after all.

obytheway. that meso argument seems very reasonable. I think 3 is the right answer.

o okay. I think i put 7 as the right answer, go figure. maybe i took the double bonds cis and trans into account. looking back at it, it doesn't really make sense. But neither did all other answers... that argument about 2^2 also seems very logical, but hey, let's not split hairs about it. Do you guys know the exact date when we should get our scores back?

Hi Yall

I am in Virginia (UVA). I just took the mcat...and was reading some of what yall had to say here. I had form EH. I had everything that has been mentioned here on this page. It seems my test was very similar to all of the "E" forms. I must say first I thought that Verbal was...pretty hard...but not overly difficult. I took 5 practice tests before this one...and I still felt verbal was difficult. I can say that I finished on time though. I was pushed to the limit of my time...and ended up finishing the last passage with like 30 secs...at which point I just put my head down on my test and took a short nap...hehe. Anyway I did really really well on AAMC tests 5 and 6...like at least 13 on each section...however...I didn't feel as good after the PS and BS sections on the actual mcat. At then end of each section I was left saying...well there were some there I didn't really know the answers and ended up having to use pure logical reasoning to come up with answers. In short I have no idea how I did. As far as I know I could have done poorly. Does anyone know for sure how the test is scored? Am I going to get scored against all the people who had E...or the entire mcat? How come some tests are harder than others? Also...are we going to be scored against everyone who has take the mcat...EVER? If not then why do people say the curve changes every year...meaning the average score is different each time? It would be the same if they were making it standard right? I have a feeling the curve won't change from the normal one that was used for those AAMC tests. I get really nervous before big test like this...I think it can affect my performaces...any of yall have the problem. Some people seem to not be bothered by that aspect. Anyway, good luck to all yall. Pete

Hey guys,
I just took the mcat yesterday. Infact I have already spent half a day worrying about the outcome. After reading a few threads, i decided to stop thinking about it. Believe me, time waits for no one. Before you know it, it will be october. I have decided to immerse myself in the events going on in Greece right now (olympics). I just hope everyone's hard work paid off. Hopefully we will all be singing in october. All I am trying to say............live it up b/c mcat is gone bye bye............................................

I had form EH as well.

Are you sure you had form EH? I had that form and do not remember alot of the questions you're talking about. Did you have the PS passage about little kids hockey?

I don't understand this...

I had Form EM, but these questions are NOT similar at all. Maybe there were two different EM forms? Who knows. The other thread, "EM Form," at least had some similarities to mine though.

I agree with u assembler...I did not have any of these questions, but the other EM thread sounds very similar.

it seems that somebody went to the form from last April and brought out the same EM form...THATS why questions do not seem to be same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad:

did you guys see how hard the free standing questions were in the PS?!?!? That was insanity. Forget composure, I had to speed bubble like a mad man. Did you guys feel that the passages in the PS got really hard at the end. Tricksy Tricksy if you ask me. The VR was dense and never ending. One passage had like 10 questions I think. And they were all about Whitman!?!?! Whats up with that? I swear, i think there were 3 passages that mentioned him. The bio was indeed very hard to study for. Ive taken this exam three times now, and everytime i think I know what questions they are gonna ask, but everytime they manage to stump me. Errr. Hope the curve gods are generous.
