Hi guys
I have been reading up on a few schools, and have come up with barely 4 schools to apply to. I feel like I'm in a serious problem.....
I'm a WA state resident, with a 3.35 GPA; 3.2 sci GPA and 3.8 non-sci. 5 co-authorship papers; 5 years clinical research experience; lots of leadership....perhaps it's last minute jitters...but is anybody feeling a bit lost with the whole process??

I know what you mean. I am planning on applying to UC schools because I am a california resident but I don't know how to choose what other schools to go to. I have a good GPA but few ECs and I don't know what I got on the MCAT yet.

I think we need to start making a list of all private schools and their relative GPA/MCAT data so we have a pool to look from. Wouldn't that make things easier?

Tweetie et al,

I bumped up the status-check thread. I listed the schools I applied to and they are mostly lower tier, so you may be interesting in reading that list to get a good idea. :)

my premed advisors recommended this rule for applying to states schools when you are a non-resident

it must have at least 20% from outta state.

as far as what private schools

-mix it up between schools with high avg. gpas and low ones. don't go all top 10 and don't go all below top 50.

awesome advice
more like this would be very appreciated. I am determined to find atleast 7 schools tonight....got my coke ready...and the excess sugar.

This site is unrealistic. I wouldn't put so much stock in it.

personally, i wouldn't apply to ANY state school not my own. the process is already competitive enough as it is. i don't think people should be wasting money on schools where they're inherently less likely to get in just bc of residence.

how does one go about picking the schools he/she wants to apply to?

what i did was buy the MSAR and flip through every single page. i looked at location which was one of the most important factors for me and made sure i had all their requirements, read a little about their curriculum, etc. and thus, started my list.

good luck.

if you have specific questions about a certain school, i'm sure people out there can help.
it's important to do some research before applying bc it's costly, otherwise.

I recommend Tufts, SLU, NYMC, MCP-Hahnemann, Penn State, and GW and very definitely UW for you. I interviewed at all of these private schools and was accepted to 2 of them with middle of the road stats (3.62 from state school, 29). So hopefully you now have a few more schools to add to your list. good luck!

You guys are REALLY awesome....I feel so loved.

My sincere thanks! I will keep you posted.

Tweetie,

I know what you mean. I bought the MSAR online and thought it was a great purchase. I went through it page by page, looked at the school's little blurb about their approach to medical education and went from there. Not applying to any public schools not in TX. Picked 20 schools, mostly in NY, PA, MA, or midwest (Case, MCW, etc). I think if you go through it, you'll find some schools that are in your stats range (which are similiar to mine).

Good luck. May God help us all!
