O.K. So I'm at one of these small town (50-100k) hospitals on call my first night. I was a student in the big (8M in the metro area) city, and it was very busy, one never slept. Nothing has happened and all jobs have been done since 2p.m.- and it's about 8p.m. now. The hospital isn't tiny: 10 stories. I went to the E.R. to see if I could sew or LP someone and there were a mere five patients, the er doc told me he'd page me.
So what gives? I wanted a nice, rural, unopposed program so I could do something... I just hope this is the normal stochastic ebb and tide of delivering a service. Did I make a mistake picking this kind of program? Woe is me, I still wonder if I should have busted my *** doing a surgery residency... (aren't those emoticons fun?)
