Full Course Load Versus A Non "full" One

Just curious, I'm a Canadian student planning to apply to the states, and I am highly thinking of dropping a course, which would put me at 4.5 credits of my last year. Essentially this means 4 courses first semester and 5 courses second semester. Each course is worth 0.5 credits. Would this have a drastic effect on application processes?
