Does anyone know what the normal fxn of mantle zone and/or marginal zone? If I understand it correctly, the marginal zone is where b-lymphocytes that have successful undergone somatic hypermutation go to replicate and produce more monoclonal cells. Is that correct? Would the mantle zone by where the unsuccessful somatic hypermutation b cells are "pushed over" as other cells are trying to somatically hypermutate? (if that makes sense)

B cells interact with CD4s in the marginal zone then they go to the germinal center (or migrate out to bone marrow or whatever). Somatic hypermutation occurs in the germinal center.

The mantle zone immediately surrounds the germinal center and is the site of resting B cells.
