future in optometry

right now i'm a freshman at college, undergrad and i know i want to be an optomerist, but i don't have much information pertaining to what comes next. i've read alot of the posts and surfed the net about opt. all i know is that after i complete an undergrad education, then i move on to opt. college. what's next, do i just go for a job as an optometrsit after that? or is there more????
