Per my school's admissions twitter, the primary application data will now be sent to schools on July 5. The application process otherwise continues as normal. Hang in there, folks!

Johns Hopkins admissions posted the same thing!

GRRRRRRR. I just spent 1K on primaries today thinking it would be tomorrow >:[

This is ridiculous. July 5th AT THE EARLIEST!

"at the earliest" aka probably gonna be later than the 5th

AAMC is dropping the freaking ball this year.

It's pushed back a week. How does that affect it? You're gonna spend 1k regardless.

If SourD21 is waitlisted and hoping they'd hear before dropping the $1k, it would make sense to wait until the last minute to add the rest of your schools. I waited since I'm waitlisted too, but just added the rest of my schools. It would be quite bittersweet to hear back about the waitlist after you spend a grand on next years applications, haha. I certainly wouldn't complain about an acceptance though!

Lol this will be known as the year of delays.

Sent from my phone.

yeah this is kind of annoying... oh well.

Will this have any significant impact?

Man, what is AAMC doing this year? First the delayed opening and now delayed submission which by the sound of things will likely be getting delayed even longer. At this rate we'll get our first acceptances next June.

Still, as someone who applied "late" (by SDN standards 😛 ) this makes me happy since it means my app won't be as far behind. Also gives us more time to work on secondaries.

SO ANNOYED WITH AAMC!! 😡

they should give us more than like 12 hrs warning for delaying of dates to save us the stress. we will get plenty of that in med school and beyond wahh. sucks that we have no control over it =(

AAMC is dropping the freaking ball this year.

Supposedly there's been some kind of delay every year since AMCAS went digital. The first year they actually had to revert back to paper applications.

In the end none of this will matter. Just submit secondaries as early as you can and get ready to do a lot of waiting over the next year.

who's got two thumbs and isn't surprised? 👎thumbdown

Do you guys think all these delays mean that "applying early" will be somewhat less of a factor this year for getting accepted?

Or is it just something that will make everyone wait longer because the line of people needing to be verified is very backed up?

Opinions?

I think it just means that if you are in that group that isn't in the first batch, you're going to be further behind than "usual" because that first batch is just swelling and swelling with more applications.

I honestly don't think this is that big of a deal. Everyone can prewrite secondaries at this stage, so receiving secondaries a week later than originally intended won't change anyone's application season in any appreciable way.

Anyone else really happy about this?!

Meeeee! I've been under review for 3 business days now and was getting nervous that my app wouldn't be sent in the first batch (even though I submitted on the first day!!) because of dumb AMCAS slowness at verifying my transcript (seriously, how does this process take more than one business day to do?? It's one thing if you're not under review--but if you are, why the heck does it take so long?!).

More time for me to work on my application 😎

Further elaboration directly from AMCAS:

Dear Advisors,

The delivery of 2014 AMCAS data to medical schools has been delayed while we work with our IT counterparts to conduct additional testing and analysis to ensure the accuracy of the data. Data delivery will be delayed by a minimum of one week, so the earliest date medical schools will begin receiving data is Friday, July 5.

During this period, applicants may continue to complete and submit applications to AMCAS. We will also continue to accept Letters of Evaluation via the Letter Writer Application, VirtualEvals, Interfolio and U.S. mail. Our team of verifiers is working steadily to process applications, and their work remains uninterrupted. As of today, we have received close to 15,000 applications and over 3,000 of those have been verified. If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at xxxxxxx or xxxxxx

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay. We will provide an additional update early next week.

Thank you,
AMCAS Manager, Applications and Communications

I removed email and phone so they don't get one million emails and calls thanks to this post...

I doubt you would have been verified by tomorrow

I already sent to one school and just added more schools today. I've been verified since June 10. I was waiting bc I am wait listed an didn't want to spend the money until I absolutely had to in case I am accepted off the WL somewhere.

Why didn't you just apply to one school now and add more schools after you got verified...?

Did you even read the post you quoted? That's exactly what he did and he added more today to ensure all those schools would receive his primary tomorrow. :smack:

Why would I wait to send my app and potentially be late? Wouldn't I want to give myself the best chance possible?

What time on the first day did you submit? I'm trying to see where AMCAS is in the line of people

Don't use my app as a benchmark; people who submitted at 7-10pm on the first day have already been verified and I haven't (check the list in the verification thread).

I submitted at 4:41pm and I have no idea why my reviewer is so darn slow--considering I attended only one university and my transcript isn't that long (and it's in semesters already).

If you look at the verification thread AAMC appears to be past 11:30pm on the first day, so they're almost done with it. They should be on the 11th by tomorrow, hopefully.

You can send in the first school and get verified, and spend only $160. If you add 20 other schools the day after you get verified (whenever that may be), the data will be available to them immediately. So it doesn't really change your timeframe, minus maybe a day.

In any case, this is a moot point.

That's not necessarily true for everyone, though--I submitted hours earlier (a bit before 5pm) and still am under review (with transcripts and scores in and everything).

I really doubt they'll be done with the 10th by tomorrow; it'll probably take a couple more business days--if not another week of business days.

As annoying as this last second delay is, it won't make the slightest difference to anyone applying. There's no difference between being complete week 1 and week 2. Don't buy into all the hype on SDN.

It's been 17 days since June 10th. If this letter is correct and AMCAS has only processed 3000 applications, something is going seriously wrong.

3000apps/17days = 176 applications per day.
That means if you submitted today, it would take them ((15000 - 3000)/176) = 68 days to get to your application.

So just curious, if I applied today, what batch am I and when should I be expected to be verified (if it does start back up july 5) Thanks for the help!

It depends if AMCAS is able to speed up their verification process. At their current rate of 176 apps/day, you would be verified around September 3rd. I suspect that their pace should pick up in July, however.

LOL I predicted this in the verification thread a few days ago I think..

15000 applications?! Damn people are really on their game for submitting it that early!

Does this mean that since I havent submitted yet I'm screwed?

I submitted june 21 what batch am i considered to be a part of? also when do u think i will be verified?

If they have only done 3,000 applications, for someone who submitted on the 14th, is it likely to be mid July before being verified?

That means if you submitted today, it would take them ((15000 - 3000)/176) = 68 days to get to your application.

Since they don't work weekends, their actual processing rate is even slower than 176/day, though your predicted time line is still correct.

Since they don't work weekends, their actual processing rate is actually faster than 176/day.

True, however the date count he gave was in total days.

It has been 15 working days since the opening day. So 3000/15= 200 apps per weekday.

With a 12,000 person backlog it will take 60 work days (12 weeks) to get to a person that submitted today. If I looked at my calendar correctly, they will be verified by September 20th.

However, this is assuming they don't speed up and doesn't take into consideration time off such as the 4th of July.
