Pittsburgh encourages applicants to apply to them directly so that they may begin reviewing applications.

To expedite the process, applicants who have submitted an on-line AMCAS 2002 application may submit directly to:

Office of Admissions and Financial Aid
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
    3550 Terrace and DeSoto Streets
    518 Scaife Hall
    Pittsburgh, PA 15261

    1. A paper copy of their AMCAS 2002* application

    2. Documentation of their MCAT scores

After reviewing the above application materials supplemental applications will be mailed to those applicants who qualify.

*An applicant's official AMCAS 2002 application must be rceieved before a final decision can be made.

If you have questions, address them to:

    Lisa Wick, M.Ed.
    Assistant Director
Office of Admissions and Financial Aid
    U. Pittsburgh SOM

    412 648 9891 FAX 648 8768

[Please don't address questions to me. I am just transmitting this notice.]

Sorry, Gower, feel free to say something rude at me for asking a question after you said not to, but where did you get this message or posting or whatever it is? I listed Pitt but didn't get that e-mail and can't find it on the webpage . . .but I have a really negligent pre-med advisor . . .

Don't question Gower, just trust him. He's like the cigarette-smoking man from X-files, except there's no Morleys, obfuscation, or cryptic agenda. Well, I don't know about that last one.

Seriously, y'all, gower has a lot of inside knowledge. Don't question it; believe it, and be appreciative of it.

Jeepers, guys, I wasn't trying to be intrusive, I was just wondering if there was an e-mail I missed. I mean, what's the point of Pitt having that official statement if only people in top secret positions know of it? Whatever, though, don't bite the hand that feeds you, right? Thanks, Gower.

Gower is right...here's a bit from an email I got from U Pitt:

"Also, due to the numerous AMCAS related problems we will be accepting a printed copy of the AMCAS application and a photocopy of your MCAT score as a temporary primary application until the AMCAS system is functioning. You would of course still need to fully complete the AMCAS application.

    Kristy Zadora
    Specialist"

    Hope this helps.

I haven't seen that email, but I got a packet in the mail today that says Pitt is accepting paper AMCAS and copies of MCAT scores. So, send it in if you want to.

OK, well, for some reason I haven't gotten the e-mail or letter either one, but I trust you guys not to write random forged e-mails, so I sent it in today anyway. :) Thanks.

I was passing along a post that was on a List-serve restricted mostly to admissions folks and premedical advisors. Pitt and a number of other medical schools have jump started the application process.

BTW, for any of the medical schools that are doing what Pitt is, you are NOT REQUIRED TO, nor SHOULD YOU SEND them a copy of your medical school designation list.

The designation list is ONLY for AMCAS use. When AMCAS forwards a copy of your AMCAS application it NEVER includes the designation list. All the folks who have tried ways to avoid a medical school's knowing where else they are applying have wasted time and effort, unless they enjoyed the challenge of trying to find clever ways around it.

    Hi Gower-
    Your inside info is helpful.
What other schools have jump started the application process?
    Thanks
