    What are the quantum numbers for the highest enery electron in the element flourine. Yes, I should know this. I don't. Please help.

    The answer is:

    n=2, l=1, m1=1, ms=1/2.

    I know the n is 2 b/c F is in the 2nd period, but after that...?

      l=1 cause its p,(1s22s22p5) and then the higher of the energy electrons will be +1/2 not -1/2.

        you have 2 as the quantum number, then l=0,1 having 2 subshells due to the quantum number being 2. In this case it would be 1 because its asking for the quantum numbers for the highest energy electron so the psubshell is the highest in energy, then angular momentum is 0 for the first l subshell and range from -1,0,1 for the second l subshell, again m1=1 due to it being the highest in energy and magentic spin can be either 1/2 or -1/2 but when you figure out n, l and m1 you can eliminate all the others.
