Can anyone tell me where to stay in Galveston? I have read that the area around the school is a "bad neighborhood". So I guess the real questions is, where NOT to stay? All help is greatly appreciated!! THANKS

I stayed at on of the hotels that gave a discount for people interviewing. They should have sent you a sheet with a website on it. I doubt they would recommend any hotels that are unsafe.

Yes there was a list of hotels on the website. However, in reading interview feedback, I thought I would ask if any of the hotels where in a "bad area". THANKS!

Howdy!

While I don't agree that the area around the school is dangerous, there are some less than classy hotels down here. I'd recommend the Holiday Inn Express on Seawall. It is just past Ferry road and about four blocks from campus. Here is the address and phone number (from their web site, I have no connection with them): 102 East Seawall Blvd, 409-766-7070.

I live right down the road from them. I stayed their when our electricity went out after the last storm (I don't handle broken AC very well).

Good luck with your interview. UTMB is a good school and the people here are very friendly.

Take care,

Thanks for the info!!! I am thinking about staying at the Comfort Inn 2300(?) Seawall. Is that a decent area and pretty close to the school?

carcrazyguy, i agree with the above posters. most of the hotels should be fine and safe. when's your interivew? good lucK!

Thanks!🙂 I appreciate the information! My wife has an interview at Galveston and TAMU this month.

I've never stayed there so I have no first hand info, but I'm sure it will be OK.

Good luck on your interview!

Take care,
Jeff

PS, bring an umbrella no matter what the weather people say. I don't care how many PhDs they have, no body can predict this weather!

I will pass that info on to my wife! Thanks 😀

when i interviewed i stayed at the harbor house hotel (or something like that 🙂 ) it was really nice, close to restaurants, and close to the school, but it was a little pricey

Hey, you can all head down the Seawall and have a drink at the Poop Deck (wierd name, good drinks?)
