Hi all,
I have a friend who is morbidly obese and is considering gastric bypass surgery. From what I have read, the procedure does not seem to be to safe. Are there problems with malabsorption? (especially depending on what part of the intestine you choose to resect along with the stomach). I would just like to get everyone's opinion. Thanks.

of course this procedure affects digestion and it can be better or worse depending on the specificites of your friend's case. however, a lifetime of "morbid" obesity also presents alternatives that may be as bad or worse than going ahead with the surgery and taking pancreatic suppliments (if neccessary in this case.) this just needs to be an informed decision on your friend's part based on the data and advice of her docs. basically, just have the docs expalin each way what life will be like.

Thanks for the reply.
