GC holder and residency in US

Discussion in 'General International Discussion' started by mdtest2001, Apr 28, 2001.

  1. What about the IMG that has a Green Card. Does it helps to get a residency in US?

Yes. The preference is for US citizens, then a Green Card or Permanent Residency - these will all be favored over a foreign national on an H-1 or J-1 visa.

Citizenship and Greencardship are pretty much the same thing. The only difference is that you can't vote. (You CAN be drafted)
Also everyone with a greencard is eligable for citizenship after five years so it's a kind of trainee citizenship. Employers don't draw a distinction.

They are not supposed to to pay attention to the GC but they do. After US Citizens.

I think it also depends on which country the 'alien' comes from. People always think Germans and English people are intelligent and want them around. Poor nations are not too sexy though. Stereotypes are important.
