Check this out. Is this the future of medicine/science? What do you guys think about this? I am thinking Nazis still live and want to genetically design humans? This is scary ****. 😱

Headliner: Somewhere in Germany is a baby Superman, born in Berlin with bulging arm and leg muscles. Not yet 5, he can hold seven-pound weights with arms extended, something many adults cannot do. He has muscles twice the size of other kids his age and half their body fat.

Yes, there is tremendous potential for disease states like muscular dystrophy but experimenting with a child is SO HIGHLY unethical. 😡 This kind of genetic engineering is not natural and if it fell into the wrong hands could be disastrous. I personally don't like it.

mr. t will still kick his ass

The kid wasn't engineered, he was just born that way.

Uh guys, as has been said, he was born with that mutation. He was most definitely not genetically engineered to be like that.

And even if someone wanted to, there could be tons of side effects that we just dont know about yet.

The Lounge is so much faster in posting these weird news bites.

That baby's mutation possibly holds the key to treating all kinds of degenerative diseases dealing with muscle. I just hope that he isn't poked and prodded for the rest of his life. He's gotta put that mutation to good use and win Mr. Olympia!

I just wanted to clue you guys in to some insight. One of the definitions of cancer is unregulated growth. According to the article, that's exactly what that mutation is. It blocks myostatin, which is inhibitory to muscle growth.

Another example is what Andre the Giant had, acromegaly, a disease that results in an over abundance of growth hormones. Also known as Giantism, this disease caused Andre's body to continue growing his whole life, and by the time he was 17 he stood 6'7".

And here's one for you evolutionists. The body is a highly, fine-tuned machine. To tinker with it must eventually lead to some side effects. Just think about it, big muscles, not enough bone durability to keep up. Obviously, this topic has been talked about in the past. There was a really interesting article in scientific america a couple of years ago. It had a half naked runner or muscle man, whatever, felt embarassed reading it in public. It was actually scarier than embarassing considering that there would be at least one guy sitting in front of me with a chubby. Gross! later.

Researchers would not disclose the German boy's identity but said he was born to a somewhat muscular mother

There will almost certainly be side effects, but what will they be? I think the main concern for that boy will be his heart. I would bet that the increased skeletal muscle mass would cause less of a problem, being that our current levels of myostatin are probably due to our inability to get enough food to maintain the muscle, rather than that we have reached an "absolute limit" of muscle where our frames will be unable to support it. Now that food supply in some countries is of no concern, I think moderately decreased myostatin activity would likely help more than hurt most people. I believe the boy's mother was a heterozygous mutant and a successful athlete?

To answer your question. No. Unless I want to die of a heartattack.

she called you an idiot because it states in the article that the baby was BORN that way. He was NOT genetically altered and if he was...i doubt it was by nazis

how immature....and you want to be a physician?

The boy is healthy now, but doctors worry he could eventually suffer heart or other health problems

This is what I was afraid of as soon as I heard about the mutation. It's rare for a reason. 🙁 As are most mutations that make you super strong or super tall.

This isn?t the lounge people try to control your impulses a little better.

No. I WILL be a physician.

I know that the article states that he was "born" that way. However, I have also noticed that a lot of freaky "mutations" and clones somehow originate in Germany. Read up on some literature. I don't think that it is a coincidence. And this is my opinion.

How immature am I? Hmmmm....Well, I am mature enough to not bash someone elses opinions because they differ from my own. How's that love?

No offense, but facts and proof are generally better than conjecture. You earlier criticized the genetic alteration of this baby as immoral, but in reality, the only immoral action related to this is your jumping to conclusions that htis baby was genetically enginered simply because he comes from germany and you have noticed other mutations coming from germany as well. Sorry, but that's not really scientific evidence for genetic engineering of children.

Rude and uncalled-for. I'm not laughing-- have gained a pretty bad impression of you.

Facts and Proof? What facts and proof? Did you see any? True, do you really believe everything that is written or everything that has been told to you? Come on. Give me a break. Most of what the "public" reads is altered so that we get a nice picture of what is really going on. The facts and details were left out of the story and were very obscure. This was done on purpose. The picture that is shown is not dated and is said to be taken when the child was 7 months old. Hypothetically speaking: if I was a parent and my child looks "healthy" as was stated in the article and my family is known to have good "genes" because we are all so damn athletic...would there be any reason to suspect that my child has a mutation. Which raises the question: How was this mutation found so early? Is every child's genetic makeup screened? I don't think so. I suspect that the birth of this child was monitored carefully if not tampered with and his life will be hell from here on out. Don't believe everything that is told to you. You will go on living your life like a lemming and never know what hit you.

The immature comment was for your 'Fat #$%" comment to the other poster, not based on your opinion of super baby

Those Nazi's must have also been trying to develop an army of Belgian Blue Bulls. This is a picture of one with a mutant myostatin gene, the same gene that is altered in the German infant. There has also been some research showing that myostatin gene knockdown can rescue muscular dystrophy models in the mouse.

It's not a conspiracy when they're really after you, huh?

This article was reported in many major news sources. Furthemore, the child is now 5 years old (you really, really didn't read the full article did you?). I think you could notice if the child had a major issue when he's 5 years old and is growing muscle like the incredible hulk...

As for the "facts" that were left out, if you read the story carefully from a major news source, they're all there. They talk about his parents history and genetic composition for the mutation (his mother is heterozygous for it), and the family history of this mutation (her brothers are all very muscular as well).

I don't believe everything I read, but when it is reported in many major news outlets and backed up by scientific studies that show the same results, then sorry, I'm a sucker and I believe them.

As for you, you have yet to give any proof for you mass-conspiracy that the germans somehow genetically engineered a kid to be the incredible hulk (you should also go to the major motion picture studios to work on a script while you're at it).

I definetly wouldn't want that bull involved with Spain's Running of the Bulls.....

we could pair the sister of the kid who's 13 in med school with this dude when he grows up... the new species of human which kills us all!

Previousy, on X-Men...

I feel sorry for your future patients, would you call them a "fat @$$" if they were obese?
