General Surgery 4th year Electives

Hey guys, I'm going to apply to general surgery this year and I was wondering which elective I should chose for my last spot -- gas or infectious disease? I feel like both will be useful, but I only have room for one...

whichever one involves the fewest amount of hours! if they're both the same, go for ID. you'll never get that kind of training again.

If you're applying to gen-surg, then gas sounds pretty useless to me.

I'd go for ID.

Says the high schooler. What great advice. I can't possibly imagine why it would be useful for a future surgeon to take an elective that helps them better understand what's going on on the other side of the curtain

Somebody better tell all the surgery residencies that have their interns rotate through anesthesia that it is "useless"
