MSAR and other publications often list the first year tuition. But from what I've heard and read, it seems like tuition in later years can be far higher than the first year at some schools.

Is there a good place to find out tuition rates for all 4 years at a given school? Or do I simply need to call the admissions offices?

Thanks, and sorry if this is a well-worn subject.

Generally your tuition is the same during your first two years, while your third year is high since you're in school year round (no summer). If the school is on quarters, just add the cost of an extra quarter. I'm pretty sure semester schools prorate the cost for those extra weeks.

Quick question...as a side note, does anyone know if we get all of our loan money the first day of school and then have to budget for the year or do we get like monthly installments. The reason i ask is that i'm horrible with money and if i get a huge chunk at the beginning there are gonna be huge temptations for a spending binge.

Some schools lock tuition for the four years you attend. Hence, the tuition a fourth year and a first year pay may be substantially different. The first year may be paying four years worth if tuition hikes higher.

i'm pretty sure you get 1/2 of it in the fall and 1/2 in the winter.

If it's a public school, don't count on ANY published numbers. Rumor has it MCV-VCU just had a 50% jump in tuition due to Virginia's budget crisis, and other states are feeling it too. UVa went up about 20% for next year. I don't see this getting better any time soon, time to find a nice sugar daddy to pay my way through school

As for payouts of loans, you get one in Aug. for fall semester, one in late Dec for spring semester. I'm going to try to prepay things like rent so that a majority of the money is out of my account and safe from stress-driven shopping sprees
