Hi everyone,
I'll be starting med school this fall, and I've sort of been thinking: I really know nothing about genetics. My knowledge is more or less limited to Punnett squares and AP Bio stuff. Can anyone (preferably current med students) recommend a good introductory text?

thanks a lot!

You don't need a text, you just need to keep your eyes and ears open, and keep your head clear. The rest will work itself out.

if you know what a punet square is you are already ahead of half of your class. You don't need a text now, they will teach you what you need in med school.

+1 on not worrying about it till you start...but if your really must have a look before school starts, pick up lippincot's biochemistry illustrated review. there is enough basic genetics in there to get your feet wet, and you will defo be able to use the book in your biochem course as well.

btw, i disagree with the statement about your classmates not knowing anything. one of the things that sucks about first year is that their will be a bunch of people with molecular biology degrees or whatever that for whom alot of this **** will be review. that doesn't mean that you cant do well too, you will just have to work harder. so there is something to be said for brushing up on an area that you feel that you no experience in. i really wouldnt sweat it though, enjoy the summer while your time is still your own.

I had genetics and did not find it that helpful for med school. Lippincott's is a definite-- read that over the summer and you will be in good stead.
