So i just got a letter from Georgetown saying that i am in the "highly select" pool. I am happy, since I remember them saying that they dont offer too many outright acceptances, but i would like to know how my chances are for acceptance now. I liked the school, and I know it has received some criticism, but you cant beat the clinical experience you get there (accoring to a 1st year resident i know). Anyone else in my boat? thanks

they told us if you end up in highly select, make sure you send a letter of interest. they led me at least to believe their waitlist is very active. my host at gtown, a buddy from college, did exactly that and got in

good luck 🙂

when did u interview and was the letter sent to your campus or home addres? i interviewed first week of november and haven't heard anything.

I interviewed about the same time as you did, and i just got the letter today to my home address. But, my home and current address is the same, so i am not too sure. The letter was date 12-26-02

I know someone who got the "highly select" letter, wrote them right back, got an acceptance about three weeks later.

My own experience: I was put in the "NOT highly select" pool (which you may recall Ms. Sullivan said is tantamount to rejection). After I got over being mad about it - I mean, why not just reject my ass to start with?? 😡 - I knew I still was interested so I wrote a couple more letters. I got a "highly select" letter in March, wrote a few more letters about how I was interested, but never did get an acceptance.

Getting the "highly select" letter in December is good; if that's where you want to go then TELL THEM and you'll most likely end up accepted. Georgetown likes to feel the love from their applicants. 🙄

OMG, there's a NOT highly select pool too!??😱

From the last two years, everybody I know who got in off the highly select pool wrote a letter of interest or letter of intent to go there. The people I know who didn't care and was in the highly select and didn't write a letter didn't get in (even with amazing stats. It's just a way that they increase the number of people who enroll per number of acceptances they give. Congrats.

Hey, man. Definitely write a letter if Gtown is where you want to go - dont forget how much Mrs. Sullivan stressed that!

Absolutely write the letter. I don't remember exactly how it's supposed to go, but Mrs. Sullivan said that it needs to be addressed specifically to one of the deans (Dr. Wall? I think) and it has to have three paragraphs. I'm sorry...I can't remember what the three paragraphs are but I know that if you call the admissions office they'll probably let you know. Or some very dilligent person on SDN might have written it down during the interview. Anyway, good luck and congratulations on the letter.

just called georgetown and they said the next committee meeting is 1/9. i interviewed 1st week of nov and they said there was no guarantees i'd be included in the meeting....argghh. why's it taking so long!?! over 2 months when most people get a decision in couple of weeks..... 😡

And yep...got the highly select pool too, this afternoon. Interviewed 11/12. Does someone have the specifics on that letter? If so, please post!

Thanks🙂

was the letter sent to ur home or campus address and in what state is it? when was it postmarked? i'm kinda annoyed at georgetown cuz i think i interviewed either on the 6th or 7th of nov but still havne't heard a word and they say my app hasn't been reviewed by the committe yet...argghhh. 😡

I live in Oregon. It was sent to my home. I didn't see when it was postmarked (sorry, I'm at work). My interviewer said that sometimes the applications don't go up for review in the order that they interviewed. I was actually surprised to hear...I thought it would be at the end of January.

I do have to say that I'm feeling kind of pissy that I seem to be receiving a stream of 'highly select', waitlist, and 'hold pool' letters post interview. Arg. I hate hate hate waiting.😡 😡

does anyone know who we address the letter to?

The letter should be addressed to Dr. Russell Wall c/o the admissions office. I called Gtown yesterday and made sure.

that's kind of wierd because ourinterview letter was from eugene ford, and when i searched for dr. wall it just said he was in the department of anesthesia.

There is a Dr. Russell Wall in the anesthesia dept. He may be the same person. Do a search on Highly Select and Georgetown and you'll see that it is Dean Wall that you need to send the letter to. Or call georgetown if you want to be doubly sure.
