...for an extra 15 bucks! Yup that's right. I took the test last year, but a friend of mine took it last month and just got a letter in the mail today.

The letter tells you how to access your score "on or about June 7" for an extra charge of $15.00!!!

Is it just me, or is this a TOTAL screw? Holding scores hostage for $15 bucks?! As if the AAMC doesn't rape people enough.

Maybe the scores will appear on AMCAS application on June 15.

Oops, sorry. It's June 7th, not June 15th. Still a screw though...

How stupid is that...Do you not realize when 60 days comes along. I got my test scores about 57 days after the MCAT. SO you get your scores back a week early. Big deal. For $15 dno way.

Someone is trying to pull your chain though and it's funny.

I got that same crap in the mail today too. What a bunch of thieves!! I posted a comment on the MCAT discussion ealier.

ok where do i send the check???????

Ok, I'll bite. Where do you sign up for this, or is there something you have to mail back?

i don't have access to my p.o. box at the moment. could someone type what's in the letteror at least give a summary of the details? you could also just post a scanned image. =) thanks!

Hey Yogi Bear, here's what the letter says.. just got it today
As an alternative to waiting for mail delivery of your april 2002 mcat scores, you may retrieve your scores from a secure location on the aamc web site. We will post scores on this site on the same day we begin mailing the paper score reports- about June 7.

The cost of thsi service is $15, which may be paid by Mastercard or Visa when you log in. You will also need your personal password.. which is on an enclosed slip.

I'm going to pay the $15 bucks. You figure- amcas I think won't accept applications until june 8th- so if you know your scores before you submit your amcas, it might eliminate a school you'd pay 30 bucks to apply to.
i.e. Let's say right now i think i rocked the exam and scored a 39. So I have harvard on my list, but I find out on June 7th, I only got a 31. Well I'd probably take Harvard off my list of schools-- and just saved myself some money.
so in some ways... you could save money by using the service.

I got that letter too and initially my heart started racing because I thought it might be my actual scores. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I think the $15 is ridiculous for checking your scores online. I would think that making scores available online would be far cheaper than having to mail out all those scores to the thousands that took the exam. Online scores are quicker, cheaper, and easier to access so I'm confused as to why they wouldn't use this method as the primary means of getting your score to you.

If anything they should charge $15 to mail a paper copy of your scores to you rather than the other way around. Oh well, I guess they've got us over a barrell what can you do, I mean we all want our scores ASAP so we can adjust the list of schools we're going to apply to.

I'll pay the $15 to check them online anyway but this is BS. :p

I was in Walmart when my mom called me and told me that I got a letter from the MCAT folks. I was like pulling my hair out the entire day until I got home, thinking my scores came early. When I opened my letter, I was sadly disappointed to read that these folks wanted MORE money out of me! I think I'll wait a week longer and save $15.

They do this with the SATS too--my brother just called up last week to find out his scores for 10 bucks. So what's the big deal? By June 1st you guys will be dying to find out your scores, and I think $15 is worth it. :D And lavidee also made a good point.

I agree, I will definitely pay the 15.00 to get my scores before submitting AMCAS. Although, I haven't received any letter...did they say it was sort of a pilot program and only a few of the test-takers will get to access them early?

Why would you want your summer ruined a week earlier?

Just kidding.

laviddee:

thanks for the response! i'm very tempted to get my scores early. do you know what the website is?

i'm wondering if you could find the same info via your amcas application. i remember reading earlier that sdn'ers clicked "print" on their amcas application saw their scores online the day amcas began sending out the scores.

Yeah I have to admit when you start writing the checks for applications $15 is nothing....mine took about 6 days longer than everyone else last year, and my friend's (different state) were lost entirely....they don't actually send them all on the same day either...they are sent in batches....
