I'm 17 right now and should be getting my high school diploma in June. I think I have to be 18 to work as a tech, but I have no prior work experience at all. If I self-study for the PTCE and pass it, would certification help me to get a job once I turn 18? And I can't register for the test since I don't have a hs diploma yet, so does anybody know if there any test dates over the summer?

You should not have any problems getting a Job once You Pass the PTCE. Look Up the other requirements for getting registered as a tech and start putting them together. I think thats it.

The PTCE should be offered over the summer. Check out their website http://ptcb.org for testing dates. The test is offered all the time at a testing center near you.
