getting clinical experience

hi! what kind of opportunities are out there
for first-year med students who want clinical
experience? i'm thinking of clinical research
this summer, so i'm thinking it would be nice
to start learning how to do histories, basic vitals, etc from now. please let me know about opportunities/things you did where the student can actually DO stuff, not just watch.

Well usually med schools arrange for such experiences for their first year med students. If your school doesn't, you might just try contacting a doctor in field that you are interested in or internal medicine and asking him/her if you can shadow them once a week or so. You can ask for more responsibility after watching them do things like take a history after a while.
