so i know once i finally found the phone number for admissions by calling their operator etc. but is it because they prefer people contact them by email that they only readily provide that information?
ok ok the answer to that is probably obvious.
but my question is, how long does it usually take for them to respond? also, has anyone tried to get them to review your app sooner if you're going to be in the chi-town area?

you mean calling for a secondary or for an interview or for a decision?

They are SLOOOOOW to repsond. I am not sure about how Rush feels about requesting a earlier app review, but I did that with Creighton since I have friends interviewing at the dental school in December and I wanted to split costs. They didn't wear their happy Jesuit faces with their reply. could be because I am a mediocre applicant, but nevertheless they made their point known.

really? loyola wore their happy Jesuit faces (wait...they're Jesuit, right?). i mean, they didn't say yes, but they said they'd note it down. i'm a super-mediocre applicant, if that's possible.

so should i try to find that phone number again? al;ksdjfkjsd;fj this sucks.

Yeah, they're Jesies. My mom and my aunt graduated from Loyola and still no love for me....

Actually, I would call. My southsiders will be nice to you, I can just feel it. If you have the MSAR I think the phone number is in there. Check on mine too while you're at it. I'll be in Chi-town for the holidays so I am completely free! 😉

Yo, I'm from the Chitown area too. I've heard you say a couple times that you're a mediocre applicant. What makes you think this? GPA/MCAT? Lack of research/clinical, etc? Kind of personal, but I was just curious.
If I have any advice, it's be confident in your application. From what I hear, med school admissions is somewhat fickle, and what one thinks might be a weak point in your app. might not be the reason that person didn't get in. That's why you never assume what's weak about you and be confident in what's strong.
Oh, and I have had trouble with Rush as far as time of response, and I've even met the director of admissions! She hasn't emailed me back.

I don't want to divert from Speedy's question but maybe I should clarify my mediocrity. I always make illusions to it since SDN is a group of amazingly successful individuals and I like being in their virtual company.

I believe it is mostly my MCAT. I took it in April and got a 24. Retook in August and received a 28Q--very pleased but I remain realistic. I have a PhD in Medical Anthropology and did my dis research in Milan, Italy studying women with eating disorders. I have organized invited sessions at national conferences, published articles, etc, but all in Medical Anth--not direct medical EC. I have been volunteering for years at a Children's Hospital which is what got me interested in medicine.

Anyhoo, I am realistic about my chances which is why I never posted in the "what are my chances" threads. Compared to the folks on this site, I am as a professor once told his intro class "sinking in a cesspool of mediocrity."

Thats odd.. I found Rush to be very efficient in responding to me.... about three times now they have written me back (via email) the same day I had a question... hmm...

Dude, you should be fine. With all else you bring to the table, having an MCAT in the 60-somethingth %-ile and improving 4-pts will look good. Especially the 4-pt. improvement! You'll get in somewhere!

In your case gdbaby, that life experience, successful career and published info is going to give you an edge that plain old MCAT scores couldn't. I also agree with JBig, that your 4 pt increase is going to stand out. As long as your GPA is decent, I don't think you have anything to worry about!

BTW, I'm in the far western suburbs-- where all did you apply?

As for the comments about Loyola, I have to say I'm a little bitter about them... they say I'm not eligible for an interview at this time--ie, they only want to talk to me if they can't find anyone better. 😡

So sorry ID, and thank you and Jbig for the nice words. So far, no love. I used to live in the South Loop before moving to Denver and my family lives in Arlington Heights. As far as Illinois scholl to which I applied, all the Chicago area schools save Northwestern. Good luck!!

wait rush is jesuit? i thought only loyola was

I applied pretty much everywhere in IL except Northwestern and Rush. Who knows gdbaby, maybe we'll end up in the same place? You seem like a really neat person. That would be cool.

Joonie:
I don't think Rush is Jesuit, just Loyola.

Yes, wouldn't it be lovely to have lunch on the midway at U of Chicago? I guess they need to review my app, interview and accept me first!

gdbaby how dare you hijack my thread.

just kidding.

HA! Okay, let's get back to it. Rush, where the hell are you guys?!?!? 😱

I sent letters to Lifeson, Peart, and Geddy Lee himself and got responses from them within a couple months. They're all awesome.
