I've tried to figure out what chances I have for in-state, but I'm having trouble calculating what my odds are, given my significant post-bacc work, leadership experience, and job history. Anyone have any ideas how a solid year and a half of 4.0 post-bacc influences things like LizzyM and WARS scores? I know that more schools are doing more comprehensive, actually holistic reviews of non-trad applicants, so I'm wondering if I actually have got a shot with some MD schools in Texas. Any opinions are greatly appreciated!
  1. cGPA: 3.18
    sGPA:3.18
post-bac GPA: 4.0 (45 hours all upper level science)

  2. Scores:
    MCAT - 509 (125/129/127/128)
    LizzyM - 61.8
    WARS - 57

  3. State:
    Texas (only applying in-state)

  4. Race:
    ORM - White

  5. Post-Bac: 10 hours unofficial, 35 hours official

  6. Background:
Non-Traditional Student - Post-bac 3 years after 2014 graduation. 2 years spent working in leadership positions: 1 year as a Lead Psychiatric Technician for a rural hospital. 7 months as a Care Coordinator (lead) for a non-profit working with people living with intellectual disabilities. 8 months scribing in ER of a level 1 trauma center. In addition, more hours than necessary in clinical volunteering.

  7. Research:
Research in psych lab during undergrad, volunteered after graduating. Designed headgear for NIRS Brain Scan based study. Designed stimuli and aided in experiment design for regular psych research.

  8. Shadowing:
No formal shadowing, but I've been instructed that my scribing experience will overlap with shadowing experience. Two of my LOR are from MDs I worked with.

  9. Volunteering:
Misc volunteering over the years, nothing super long term, nothing requiring special mention.

  10. Extracurriculars:
Play music (Piano, Guitar, Violin, Ukulele, Tin Whistle, Kalimba), Chess, Cooking, Weightlifting, Sports, Hiking, Knitting. Tutored two students to rehab their grades so they didn't have to do post-bacc work like I did.

  11. Gap Year:
Working in hospital as ED Tech. Volunteering at Animal Shelter. Looking for formal shadow opportunities in surgery, neuro, and gastro.

  12. Awards:
Aside from Dean's List in post-bac, no awards to speak of.

  13. Other:
Essays were very solid by all accounts. Addressed academy history and growth.

  14. School List:

    MD:
    Southwestern,
    UTMB,
    McGovern,
    Long,
    Dell,
    Texas A&M (alma mater),

    Tech (El Paso),
    Rio Grande Valley

    DO:

    UIWSOM

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!

You could receive interviews from some of your Texas schools. I suggest adding more DO schools such as:
BCOM
ATSU-SOMA
MU-COM
VCOM (all 3 schools)

Thanks for the recommendations @Faha! Any reasons for those DO schools in particular? I'd definitely prefer to get into MD for residency reasons, but I can see that my school list is relatively thin.

Your MCAT of 509 should draw attention at those schools since their median is in the 500 to 503 range. You need a broad list of DO schools since your GPA is low for MD schools though your good post bacc may help you.
